Open Job: Anderson County

The reality is, every coach has a shelf life. If you have a great record, you stay longer. Which he did. But at some point, you won’t be on the same page. Probably what happened here.

This is true as well, saying among coaches is, you are hired to be fired.

114-65 in 15 seasons with a 5A state finals appearance in 2011.

I seem to remember reading about some significant complaining going on in Lawrenceburg after the Bearcats went 5-6 in 2015 and 4-7 in 2016, and then they just followed up a 10-1 season in 2018 by going 4-7 this past season, but if I was the AD making the call, I'm not sure that I would part ways with a long-term coach like that unless there's something else at play.

Can anyone confirm whether or not the job is open? Or whether the decision was made by the school, or by Coach Peach?

So the last 5 years were:

5-6

4-7

8-4

10-1

4-7

Total of 31-25 with a 1-5 record in the playoffs.

Sounds like a change might have been in order.

HS talent is cyclical at best in 90% of schools in KY.

Here is a stat line for you:

'14 0-10

'15 6-5

'16 7-5

'17 7-5

'19 14-1 State Champions

Yes but you can't get rid of them as a teacher when they have tenure, he was there fifteen seasons so he has tenure. You have to really mess up to lose your teaching job once you are tenured.

I think Johnny Utah nailed my point. I don't know anything about his teaching, but taking away what is probably the number 1 reason he was there in the first place might force him to look at other options at other places OR give him the free time now to be a better teacher.

Yeah, Anderson County was so great before him and their district annually they should be 3-4 with Lexington Catholic, Boyle County and Bourbon County. Good luck to the next coach in that district.

But you have to tell the whole story.

2009: 14-1 State Runner-Up

2010: 13-1 Region Champs

2011: 9-5 Region Champs

2012: 11-3 Region Champs

2013: 8-5 Region Champs

2014: 0-10

2015: 6-5

2016: 7-5

2017: 7-5

2018 11-3 Region Champs

2019: 14-1 State Champs

From what I can see there that looks like:

7 Regional Championships

1 State Runner-Up

1 State Championship

In 11 seasons. Only one losing season and only 2 seasons without a playoff win. I think you've earned a bit more currency when you've got that kind of record. 3 losing seasons in 5 years with only one playoff win would have most likely gotten the coach above fired as well.

I don’t understand this line of thinking. This isn’t college. HS guys don’t get to go out and recruit. You coach what you have which all kinds of factors play a part in. People move out of the area or move in. Redistricting. That doesn’t even get into change of administration and their vision for a school, program or district. Then you’re also at the mercy of a governing body when it comes to part of your schedule and then there is geography.

Like I said earlier the whole thing is strange timing wise. If they knew they didn’t want to bring him back then why wait until now. If it’s a more recent decision then something had to happen or be the last straw.

Am I mistaken or did Anderson County's good running back (Collins?) move to Breathitt County this season? He was a big part of the offense I believe.

Yes Collins moved. I believe he played at 3 different schools in 4 years. Everywhere he played he made a large impact. He is one heck of a ball player. That is one example of how kids moving in and out of a district makes a pretty big impact.

Not that one playoff win makes any difference, but Anderson County was 10-0 in 2018 but had a first round bye because Grant County dropped out off the opposite district. Highlands came to Anderson and won a close round two game, 14-10. I remembering thinking that was pretty tough luck for Anderson County - undefeated season, district championship, no warm up playoff game, and have to play one of the better programs in your first game of the postseason.

So many programs are just one or two kids away from having completely different changes. You're right.

Few just want to admit it. Talking about "culture", "climate", etc - attributing that to success make(s) people feel more warm and fuzzy inside.

 That playoff stat line sure is going to increase now isn't it? Great call.

Any updates with this position?

They are apparently forming a committee to interview players and parents to gather feedback. Don't seem to be in a hurry.

They are also offering no comment on what led to him being let go.
