LaSalle will also be playing for a state title this weekend with their GCL rival Elder playing for one too. CCH would fit in easily in an interstate GCL South Conference if that could ever happen.

Never gong to happen. But the last 3 years CCH could compete with the GCL South teams and Eddie Eviston remains our coach.

FD rotates guys both ways, but they sub them out often to keep them fresh.

Cov Cath plays perhaps 5 guys playing almost all the plays both ways? Cov Cath only played 21 players in the Bowling Green game. That is special teams and everything included. Douglass played 36 in their game against Owensboro. How many guys are playing almost all plays both ways for FD?

Fredrick Douglass easy in this one. Blue Boys beat LaSalle handily, and only scored 13 against Birds. Could be a running clock against the school from Park Hills. But Blue Boys do have the greatest high school player of all time to ever play the game. Douglass still wins. SMH.

 

I know you are being facetious, but Michael Mayer is that good. I am not a CCH fan and I will state to anyone that he is the best high school player I have seen. The speed he has at his size can only be appreciated when you see him in person. He will be a difference maker in this game. His biggest impact will be on defense. He will make plays sideline to sideline. He will make an impact catching the ball. He will make an impact in short yardage situations as a lead back blocking and perhaps carrying the ball as well. He single handedly is the reason CCH is undefeated. He did all the above in Cov Cath's comeback win versus Lex Cath. Without what Mayer did in the fourth quarter of that game, Cov Cath loses that game by two touchdowns.

CovCath has spent the entire year waiting to redeem themselves from the crushing loss last year. If they lose it will be especially demoralizing for them. I don't think they will lose, but if they do at least I can say for sure that CovCath's run still wouldn't be over because next year they'll be great even without Mayer because they'll have Caleb Jacob, Reardon, Nally and much of the Oline as seniors.

What are the keys to the game offensively and defensively for each team?

I have watch a little bit of FD but much more of CCH. I would say for CCH offensively the key to the game is which Caleb shows up. If he plays anything like he did BG, the colonels should definitely have a chance to win the game. Defensively I think they need to keep the ball in front of them and avoid giving up the big plays. If the pass defense is able to limit FD I believe the rush D will continue its dominance.

Based on the limited amount I have watched FD I think offensively the key will be protecting the QB with that stout OLine and giving him time to go through his progressions and find the open receiver. I could be wrong, but I don’t think a heavy workload running the ball is going to work in this game. Defensively I believe the key will be to get to the QB early and often. If they are able to take away some of Calebs confidence and make him question his reads it could be a long night for the colonels.

While I do believe Mayer is the best player in KY, he wasn’t the best offensive player I saw this year. Elder TE Royer would be that player in my eyes but Mayer is a beast defensively and would be at the next level as well.

They knew Highlands couldn't get a first down on there Defense and they thought they would play them in 2nd round of playoffs.

Never heard of a team doing that. Wouldn’t Highlands see film of them playing their full offense? I just don’t get this theory. I get it Cov Cath is better. I just don’t understand changing your playbook to play worse than you normally would against your rival at their house? Especially when Highlands could look at the tape of other games. I need more explanation of this theory.

Maybe they did but still why? If Highlands is so bad why not just run your game and smoke them? Did they run their full playbook against Conner? Highlands watches film still I hope, so it’s not like they are not going to see what they usually run. Just seems weird to not try and win as hard as usual? If it was the difference in winning 13-0 to 30-0 seems like a dumb strategy.
