LaSalle had a bunch of D1 players, but CovCath had the best player on the field. CovCath's defense is outstanding. Good win for the Colonels.

Mayer was the best player on the field, no doubt. However, the rest of the Colonels played inspired football. The tackling was very sound tonight and when it was needed most, the O Line did a great job of helping the Colonels possess the ball and run out the clock. And, the pass protection was excellent. On D, the DBs fought their tails off and did a great job setting the edge on stretch plays. Just a really strong team effort. The kids should be very proud. They earned it and frankly, kicked LaSalle’s tail.

Not the best win ever. Maybe the signature win this season if the Lancers win state and beat other Cincy blue blood schools. And CCH wins it all. A lot of games left though...

Congrats on great win! Always good to beat up Ohio teams!

Random thoughts:

1) CovCath does a good job with their senior night. Lots of very good football players will be moving on after this season.

2) As others mentioned, Mayer was the best player on the field.

3) CovCath's O-line really took it to the LaSalle d-line. Really nice night for Lucas Jones. Cornell is getting a good one.

4) Having Powers play defense really seemed to shore up things on the edges. Powers had a very nice night.

5) LaSalle could lose their next 3 games. X, Winton Woods, and Elder. Ouch.

OK. I take back everything I thought about this year's Cov Cath team. Mucho respect pulling this win off.

Lucky for LaSalle they weren't playing last year's Colonel team or the one before that...

Hope the team enjoys this for a day.

And then gets ready for next week.

Super happy for the Colonels, way to go!

I dont see last year's CovCath team nor the 2017 team doing any better against this La Salle team. This was a dominating win. I feel like this year's CovCath team could beat the last year team easily.

My post was a playful jab for Voice.

Who really knows how teams from different years stack up. Too many variables.

Mayer is an absolute treat to watch.

The pick 6 was amazing.

He also landed a monster hit to force a fumble.

Not to mention multiple big plays on offense.

If you knew the kid you would realize even though it is such a cliche, that he is an even better kid than he is a player.

Covington Catholic: 320 yards of offense

LaSalle: 114 yards of offense

WOW.

They are #3 in the GCL!!

Not according to the rankings!!

Incredibly surprised, and pleasantly so. I didn't think the CovCath defensive front would hold up versus LaSalle's offensive line and running game...and I was dead wrong. Kudos to the Colonels.

I think two things are clear for the rest of 5A at this point: you can throw the ball on the Colonels if your QB is special and you have solid weapons, however, you can NOT run on the Colonels. Period.

Bingo.
