Didn't Ashland lose to Raceland? Didn't Raceland lose to LCA? Was Ashland down this year or was the Raceland loss a fluke? Mercer beat LCA 63-0.

It was a Fluke IMO. But it is all about matchups.

Middlesboro beats Corbin 62-42.

Belfry Middlesboro 49-26

Russell beats Corbin 31-23

So based on this Belfry should beat Russell.

Also Ashland was missing three offensive lineman and had their best WR playing QB in that first game.

 

LCA also had some changes during the season including the QB which improved them alot. Raceland also beat LCA in the playoffs before falling in a competive game to NCC.

 

The point is, don't read to much into scores of common opponents. Especially from early season matchups.

I agree.....very little is gleaned from common opponents.

I will keep an eye on #56 on Friday, he sounds like a player.

IMO, I think if there was a way for the Administrator to shut down all threads concerning Russell Vs. Mercer until after the game, then I vote that we shut it down.

 

Parents, fans, alumni and boosters are not the only ones that get on this site. We have players from both sides reading this thread as well, and as my name suggests, I have a son in this game, and he doesn't need to read nor do I believe any of the other players on either team need to read the anger, rantings and bleeped out vulgarities that have spread over these 7 pages of comments.

 

These kids need to play with heart, intelligence, discipline and not with a chip on their shoulder because of some of the comments they have read on this thread or what they hear us say at home, school or community. Those chips only lead to poor play and makes it very hard on each coaching staff to focus their kids on the job they need to do between the lines.

 

As I posted several pages ago, both teams average over 40 points a game and both only give up 9.1 pts a game. I just truly don't see a blowout, but as someone else said, maybe the best game of all 4 classes.

I respectfully disagree about shutting down the post however. This game is a HUGE game for the folks here in Mercer County. Throughout this year in this forum I have witnessed people simply asking questions about how good Mercer might be compared to other 2A teams only to get disrespected antagonized about their beloved Titans. I have seen Mercer fans be disrespectful back as well. It is a football forum. We all know that the players read this, but if they can't focus it isn't our fault for being allowed to post our feelings about upcoming games, or teams, or anything involved in the lovely game of football. For Mercer, this is a chance for validation and the feeling around here is that that validation will be stronger than people want to believe and frankly, I agree with them. We could be wrong, and the great thing about this forum is that after the smoke clears, we can see who will come back on here to "man up" and eat crow like you're supposed to when it is all said and done. The administrators on here do an excellent job of moderating the posts and suspending those who cross the line. Ask mercertitan. To even think of shutting down the Russell vs. Mercer post would be equivalent to shutting down the site. I understand your feelings, but like I said, I respectfully disagree. And yes, should Russell upset Mercer on Friday, I will be one of the many to come on here and eat crow and also to congratulate Russell on what would be an impressive win against one of the most dominating high school football teams that I have ever witnessed. I look forward to Friday when Mercer County becomes a ghost town. These people here deserve the chance to cheer on their kids, cousins, and nephews like so many of us have done before, just like we all deserve to come on here and talk about what we think will happen. Well what can I say? Yes I am from the OC camp which, of course was destoryed by Mercer this season and was also defeated by Russell last year at PJS. These are my observations which are just that and no more. Now, lets just me say that Mercer was, without a doubt the fastest and most talented top to bottom team we have seen all year. This we do not even try and dispute. Now granted I did not see Russell this year and so you can blast me for that when it is all said and done and no hard feelings will be absorbed here. My observations on Russell is taken just on last years game. I realize that it is a different team and different season so just bear with me. Russell has a great coach, a classy program and a great fan base and you have to love the smash mouth running and flat out toughness they bring to a game. I think some experience with a title game will play a part in the game. This game has the making of a great final. Many post on here are, it seems, from former players who have played in big games that ended their seasons and careers with tears or joy. You remember that feeling I am sure. The young kids on here are most likely not understanding this concept yet. Both team players and fans alike...take this all in. I hope you feel this again in your lives, but you may not. Put aside the differences and love this moment for what it is. Good luck to both teams. Travel well and safe. My only concern is now: When I sit down at PJS...do I sit and cheer for Russell or Mercer ? No prediction from me except this...This fella is going to watch a great game.... :D

You have to admire the Grit this Russell team has shown in getting back to the Pizza box, They have the ability to find a way to win, I know Mercer is Favored, and Mercer is Fast, but there is something about Russell Football

that just "gets ur done"

I can buy that. We aren't insiders and Jaggers is. I think we brought the same data and perception to the discussion but no one cared to listen.
