Devils only beat three complete teams this years ...

 

Boyd ,Corbin and Belfry

 

This was a concern until the road performance at Belfry .... Belfry has a quality program that is a yard stick for anyone any year ...

 

Although Belfry was off it's game this win was very impressive ...

 

Ps .. Russell lost to an Ashland team in a close one ... Ashland is loaded with athletes - every year ... this game tells me we can match athletes with any 2a school ... including a 2a and 1a combination...

I think Ashland is going to 5a next year .... Mercer might meet them someday in the playoffs ...

 

Other things that tell me we can match against athletic teams ... Mason Co a few years ago , the Devils shut down guys named Grutza and Lofton... Devils beat them twice in the same year I think .... Both these kids were clearly best athletes on the field ... Devils as a team under the direction of the coaching staff controlled this game ... these games might have been Russell's finest hour ...

 

 

Boy Howdy. It could have been the finest. Grutza and Lofton both D-1 players. I will never forget that game. It was played at Ashland because our field was destroyed. The last play of the game was a pass from Grutza to Lofton. Result: incomplete, the crowd went wild.

Matching athletic teams is Devils strength - always has been , confidence grows daily , with respect to this matchup...

 

Coaches put Devils in position and kids respond and make plays .. Simple formula but one we have seen time and again ...

From what i have heard about Mercer's D, if russell puts 22 on them they are over rated. And with Russell's run D' as solid as it is i don't 41 going up on them off the ground. Could potentially be a low scoring game. Cant wait to see it.

And Massey had Russell beating Belfry by 1. It ended at 19. I have absolutely no faith in any of those websites.

Today I watched film on several of the Mercer games this season. Wow. The backs are compact. Little guys with a lot of heart. They are fast but I'm not so sure that they will be able to get away from Josh Wills. He likes to eat little guys. He teaches that to the others on defense. Chew little guys up and spit them out.

 

Seriously your backs look very good and fast. I'm not so sure although that they will be the fastest players on the field. I'm not going to give you times because Russell does not have any that I know of. But If I were a gambling man I would say that Russell team speed is just one little hair above Mercer. No one big hair.

 

I hope that this game will be a classic that we can all look back at and say, Remember when Russell took down the Mighty Titans.

No way....I have watched a ton of teams this year and the ONLY team that I felt was as fast or faster the MC was Male. This includes....Trinity, X, PRP, Dunbar, LCath, Franklin, LCA, and several others. You could say a lot of things about MC...but I highly doubt RH is faster. But I guess we'll find out Friday.

Mercers QB has had a good year, but he does not run a legit 4.5 40 and his 40 time is also Irrelevant. Its not what makes him a good QB.

How many Championships were produced from those 3 appearances? This will be Russell's third trip to this game and as of right now they are batting 1000.

We get kinda tired of the merge getting shoved down our throats. We know it's an advantage. We aren't alone in this state with that regard. It's the people that keep saying that it isnt Mercer's fault it's the KHSAA or the ones that say it was done for athletics. Now that's a shot at our school and I'm not just going to take that without a reply. Yeah we are a little arrogant but that's been slowly brought out all year. It's in overdrive now that it's title week. All year people on here were like wait till you get deep into the playoffs and you will see those blowouts will stop. Well they didn't up til this point and people realize how much better this team is then everyone they've played. We get tired of the garbage too!
