Mayer is certainly a load and no one can deny a force, but I sorta think that he's not fine tuned yet, and understandably so is playing like it's the first couple weeks of the season. It's disturbing to see a fine dedicated player like senior Fleek who has proved himself dependable all season to have to take a back seat. I say if Fleek saw more significant minutes last night the Colonels would've had a better chance of winning.

 

The thing that makes me question the thought that more PT for Fleek makes a difference is that Mayer didn't play the first game and Fleek got the PT in that one. In fact, I haven't seen last night's stats yet but Fleek probably contributed more to the stats last night than the first game. Fleek made some nice plays last night. Question- has Fleek had a game this year that produced as much as Mayer did last night?

Without a doubt? Sheesh. 2 very tight games in which CovCath led for a good bit of the game and Beechwood is the "better team this year... without a doubt"?

 

I bet Goetz and the Tigers wouldn't want to play them again. Not saying they couldn't win again, but to me, it seems like 2 evenly matched teams this year and Beechwood was able to pull them out in the end. Good for Beechwood!

 

What's the biggest difference sometimes between a winning team and losing team? Making the plays at the end to win the game. Beechwood has now been the team to do that twice against CovCath and make the plays at the end to win. So yes fair to say Beechwood is the better team this year, when comparing these two teams.

As an aside, I remember hearing way back when from the likes of George Schneider, Dan Tieman, and Lynn Ray, and Doc Brueggemann: "Win with class, lose with class." I get disappointed when I see that credo left by the wayside by members of the Covington Catholic community. Seems like there's a lot of that going on around the basketball crowd of late.

 

Why are you tap-dancing around the point, which is 100% germane to this thread given that a technical foul helped change the momentum in Beechwood's favor? If you're going to low-key say that someone is operating without class (the word in the quote, note mine), why not just call it out and go all-in? They aren't a student, so unless I'm misunderstanding the rules, I would think that is fair game. Again, in this case, it appears to be wholly germane to the discussion of the game and how it unfolded.

Congratulations to Beechwood on ending their district title drought. I saw them play earlier in the year v. Newport, and came away very impressed. They have loads of talent in the pipeline and should be battling the Colonels for the foreseeable future for more titles.

The answer is yes. Fleek has had multiple 20+ point performances, a few double doubles, and led the team in scoring multiple times, as has Greene. Coaches seem to have a short leash on them and some other players and yank them if they make one mistake - which I am sure gets into their head.

Dude, calm down! I never compared Fleek, Greene, Thelen, or anyone to Mayer. I think Mayer is awesome! Someone else was questioning Fleek's PT vs Mayers - not me!

 

What I am saying is the coaches should have given Mayer shorter spurts of playing time because he was obviously gassed late in the game when they could have used him. It is only his 4th true game this year and he is getting better and better each outing!

I guess it depends on how you look at it. Because of a technical foul the coach cannot utilize the coaching box as much as he would’ve had the technical not been issued.

 

Draud hit one of the free throws. At the end of the game instead of being up three maybe they are up only two. So perhaps they are not losing by four in the last five seconds of the game.

 

But there were a plethora (3 Amigos) of other things that impacted the game. I think everything that happens has some impact on the game. I don’t see how anything can have zero impact.

^ I'll give you that. Not zero impact, but minimal impact and certainly not game changing.
