Former Southwestern head coach, Larry French has been named new head coach at Middlesboro.

Good Luck Coach. He has a long track record of bringing programs back or even starting them. I wish him the best in Middlesboro.

With two kids at Middlesboro Elementary this hire really has me excited for the future. My kids at this point in their life don't know what Middlesboro football can be and for them to have a change to get some great memories growing up now means a lot to me as a Dad.

Good Luck Coach. Hope you win them all !!!

This will be Larry French's first job at a "small" school since he was at Mercer County back in the 1970s/1980s (when they were 1A). It will be very interesting to follow.

Nice hire for Middlesboro who has endured some rough seasons as of late. I think French can get them into the 1A conversation at some point.

I agree. He has a history of winning. This job will be no different. Good luck to Larry French!

Great move. Find him some fishing holes down there.

You recovered from that nightmarish season?

Norris Lake in TN just a short drive (their Lake Cumberland) and then not too far from Laurel Lake.

No; not yet. Not sure Daniel is the answer.

I have no idea what kind of season Middlesboro will have. But I do know those kids are blessed to have Larry French as their HS football coach. 37 years ago he was my coach. I am very thankful for my old coach. Good luck this season to the Yellow Jackets!

I see the Jackets have seven wins and still a week to go.

One question.... is Coach French the new mayor of Middlesboro or does he just get free ice cream at every restaurant in town?? :dancingpa .

You mean Frenchboro? :lol2:

That man can coach some football.

Didn't Middlesboro have a couple of good ones in the '50's? Lee Majors (Six Million Dollar Man) and Mitchell Ghent that was one of the Bear's Junction Boys. Man I'm getting old!
