Not trying to slight Russell one bit, but I believe the 7 other teams remaining in 2A would probably have the same record if not undefeated. Same goes for Mercer, most teams would probably go undefeated with their schedule. I know you guys are in a large district, but man, that schedule is cupcake city. 5 opponents made the playoffs with a playoff record of 2-5 (all are out) opponents combined record 42-65.

Now if the other 7 teams played Corbins schedule - I'm sure all would end up with a better record than Corbin, I believe most would lose to Rock and Bell - Middlesboro would be a toss up. Corbin had 8 opponents make the playoffs, playoff record is 7-6 (2 are still playing). Opponents combined record 59-54.

As I said, I'm not trying to slight Russell at all. The 8 team district kind of handcuffs you on scheduling descent opponents. The other 3 games were traditional rivals I'm sure....

Cal preps.com projects the game as follows:

at Corbin (KY)

[2006] Russell (KY) 28, [2006] Corbin (KY) 27

at Russell (KY)

[2006] Russell (KY) 31, [2006] Corbin (KY) 24

at neutral site

[2006] Russell (KY) 28, [2006] Corbin (KY) 26

Freeman ratings actually have Corbin (7) rated above Russell (9).

Last weeks Litkenhous Ratings had (7)Corbin 86.0 (9)Russell 85.4

Massey has Russell (5) Corbin (12) not including last week.

Cantrell has (3)Russell (11-1) 68.3 (8)Corbin (7-5) 57.5

I'm not a big believer in letting computers tell me who is the better footbal team, especially this time of year. Sounds like it could be a good game to watch.

Russell won a state title last year playing a similar schedule to the one they played this year. Don't bank too much on their SOC. You can use that theory with Mercer since this is the farthest we have ever been. But, Russell.......They know how to win.

It may be funny but many have tried it. (Fleming, Ashland, Boyd, O Cath, Mercer, Newport) Just to name a few that have applied that very strategy over the last couple of years.

I just don't like it...especially when high school teams go with 5 and 6 man fronts with backers stacked. All a team has to do is break level one or dump a short pass over the middle where the LB's used to be. Like I said though loading the box is not a very good strategy in stopping the run...but I am not going to take the time to lay out my defensive strategy...hahaha.:D

I totally agree with you... for the past four years Belfry and Russell have been extremely successful averaging over 300 yards a game with the majority of those teams playing with stacked boxes.

The teams I have seen give Belfry the most fits have been teams who line up in a 4-4 or 4-3 schemes and rely on their LB speed to beat lineman speed to get in the gaps. That being said, you better have the personnel to run the proper scheme because once you get to 4 down lineman it amplifies potential mismatches.

It's also my belief that the most critical defensive player on your team against Russell or Belfry is the noseguard.

What kind of back is Clark? Is he more of a power back or speedster? I know he has both but if you had to describe him with only one of the titles, what would it be? Also what kind of players are the 2nd and 3rd option running backs for the Red Devils? I feel that Corbin will not stop but at least contain Clark to a degree. However in the past, when keying on a specific back, the second option has given the Hounds fits. This normally applies if the 2nd or 3rd option is more of a speedster that likes to get around the outside. Just lookin for a little info on the Red Devils.

It should be a great game and Coach Jewell and Coach McGlone will definately have their teams ready for battle.

I haven't seen it near as much this year but over the past couple years, Corbin has fielded on of the most dominant run D's by using that 4-4 defense. I mostly saw it from 2000-2004. Of course the hounds were graced with terriffic linebackers then. Not saying they aren't now but they had a lot better depth and experience at those positions.

They are good linebackers today, but I certainly don't see any John Sizemores, Jason Steelys, Jarrod Lawsons, just to name a few. But I will not slight these LB's either they can play some ball too.

Jay Duuuuuuuuude hehhehehee awwwwwwww DORA!!!!!!!

I'd like to see these boys that play get the mentality of those boys.

Steely was a Wild Man that would hit somebody just to be hittin em..didn't matter if they were involved in the play or not.

Lawson was meaner than a copperhead.

Big Sizemore...well....he was just a lunatic. He didn't have a sane bone in that 6'2" 265 pound frame of his. He was a dangerous manchild.

I'm not sure how well that bodes for Corbin since they normally play a four man front.

Corbin fans,

What time do yall plan on leaving out Friday?

About 1:00 stop and eat that way we'll have plent of time.
your going with me right.

This should be a dandy of a ballgame. Corbin's record doesn't look at that impressive, but the Redhounds have obviously played a very tough schedule. I look for Corbin to give Russell all they want, but for the RedDevils to prevail.

Surely the 2 point conversion won't come into play again this year.

Hah if it does we should get it on the road, and the 21-20 score coming up again too...that history just doesn't sit right with me.

Clark is the type of back who loves the one on one in the open field. He enjoys putting his hand right in the face of the tackler and pushing him to the ground rather than just out running him. He has great power to break through the line and then just enough speed to break away and score. All teams key on him and many are good at it. Then Jones, Beekman, Lewis, Frasier, and Big number 10 take over.

This will be a good one. But the backs and recievers are nothing on this team without the linemen. I know most of us don't care about the most important players on the field. No I don't have a son that's a linemen. Every great run starts with a great block from a lineman. Russell has improved a great deal on both lines over the past several weeks. HOLD THE BLOCKS. If Russell wins it will be won on the line.
