Its not "air raid" but Russell's offense may be a bit more well rounded than you suspect.

Jones has 1002 yards passing which is a TON for Russell. Frazier has over 600 receiving. Stop the run and the pass will get ya.:thumb:

I don't want to be negative, but I approach every game with a coach's perspective, and "On Paper" 1002 yards in 12 games, with 60% of that yardage going to one WR is not overly impressive, nor an aspect of the game I would emphasize all week in practice...my base pass defense should be adequate against a run first team. In this case I believe the Hounds are well suited to do that.

I didn't take it negative at all. I was just making the statement for the fans outside of Russell that only hear about the run.

Sorry for the jumble but it is cut and pasted from our website.

Here is the link to the stats so you all can see yourself.

Thanks...I checked it out earlier...someone posted it in this thread I think.

The key words are "On Paper" and "should be". From a coaches perspective there is much more to the story than stats. You are correct in that they are a run first team. But they can attack you in more ways than just misdirection.

If you choose to ignore the passing game that is a mistake. They don't throw alot but they will throw enough to keep you honest.

1,198 yards passing may not be impressive all by it self but when coupled with 3,523 yards rushing it is a very nice compliment to keep opposing defenses honest.

I would agree. The point that he is making is that when you are determined to stop Russells run. They burn you for a TD in the air. No not impressive. I'm sure Corbine is much better in your mind but it works for Russell. Corbine will have problems with Russells defense not doubt about it. They are good at this point and have shown that by allowing only 104 points to date. Yes most scored on the number two and three team.

This should be a dandy.

All you Hound fans have a safe trip. It is a long ways. It will be worth it. This will be a good game. Russell fans are great hosts.

Im gonna be a homer...Corbin 28 Russell 21

I like the way the Corbin folks are thinking...

By the way, I heard a rumor that the Hounds will be coming up a day early????? Can someone from down in KFC land confirm this?

I'm a pretty reliable source and I don't think so, I will find out tomarrow.

85 pass attempts over 12 games is around 7 attempts per game.......I believe we attempted 57 against Middlesboro alone.

That is an air raid for Russell.:D

"Air McGlone"

85 pass attempts over 12 games is around 7 attempts per game.......I believe we attempted 57 against Middlesboro alone.

I hope we don't throw it 57 times against Russell........... but then again 57 offensive plays sounds like a pretty good number to be able to run against a defense as strong as Russell's.

24 If I'm not mistaken. The roster shows 25 but i believe that one quit.

26 Russell Seniors to date! :thumb:

Not trying to slight Russell one bit, but I believe the 7 other teams remaining in 2A would probably have the same record if not undefeated. Same goes for Mercer, most teams would probably go undefeated with their schedule. I know you guys are in a large district, but man, that schedule is cupcake city. 5 opponents made the playoffs with a playoff record of 2-5 (all are out) opponents combined record 42-65.

Now if the other 7 teams played Corbins schedule - I'm sure all would end up with a better record than Corbin, I believe most would lose to Rock and Bell - Middlesboro would be a toss up. Corbin had 8 opponents make the playoffs, playoff record is 7-6 (2 are still playing). Opponents combined record 59-54.

As I said, I'm not trying to slight Russell at all. The 8 team district kind of handcuffs you on scheduling descent opponents. The other 3 games were traditional rivals I'm sure....

Cal preps.com projects the game as follows:

at Corbin (KY)

[2006] Russell (KY) 28, [2006] Corbin (KY) 27

at Russell (KY)

[2006] Russell (KY) 31, [2006] Corbin (KY) 24

at neutral site

[2006] Russell (KY) 28, [2006] Corbin (KY) 26

Freeman ratings actually have Corbin (7) rated above Russell (9).

Last weeks Litkenhous Ratings had (7)Corbin 86.0 (9)Russell 85.4

Massey has Russell (5) Corbin (12) not including last week.

Cantrell has (3)Russell (11-1) 68.3 (8)Corbin (7-5) 57.5

I'm not a big believer in letting computers tell me who is the better footbal team, especially this time of year. Sounds like it could be a good game to watch.
