I don't know what lens that would be. He has a two year mediocre record in one of the worst divisions in Power 5 football. Yes, he beat Ohio State, in the same year that he loss to Eastern Michigan. He may end up being a great coach at Louisville, but there is little evidence to suggest that other than he is one of their own. Winning at Western Ky is a lot different than winning at Louisville.

What were reasonable expectations for him at Purdue? He took over a program that had won 3 conference games in 4 years and had zero talent.

Should Brohm have lost so badly to Minnesota? No, but should he have beaten Ohio State the way he did? Also no.

 

One game either way doesn’t tell the story of what a coach is building. So much of putting together a college football program is building momentum on the field and turning that into recruiting momentum which feeds back into the on-field play. Brohm is already doing that.

 

I thought I read somewhere that Hazell was bringing in recruiting classes ranked in the 60s and 70s. Brohm is slated to bring a top 25 recruiting class to PURDUE. That’s almost instantly transformative.

 

I don’t know if Brohm will say yes, but the speed of that build is exactly why I’m hoping he does.

It’s next to impossible to judge a coach until he brings in his guys. Brohm is doing that at Purdue right now. He was playing with arguably the worst talent level team in the P5. He took a team with no talent that had won 3 games the year prior and went and won a bowl game in his first year. That just doesn’t happen. Why anyone is doubting this guy is beyond me. Everyone talks about him only getting this hype because of the OSU win but they ignore the fact that he was one of the top names to land a bigger job before the season even started. It blows my mind.

Purdue had won 8 games TOTAL in the three years prior to Brohm's arrival. Last year, they were projected to win two games, they won seven. This year, they've beaten two ranked teams, more than what Petrino has done. I know we are on the same page here, but the "what has Brohm really done" crowd is the same group saying Purdue to Louisville is lateral. :lol2:

He’s going to be a top name elsewhere besides UL too. He’s ULs top guy because of his relationship with the school and community. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t qualified otherwise because he 100% is. He’s one of the more brilliant offensive minds in the game and is recruiting at an elite level. What more does he have to do?

Brohm is going to be a great coach.

If I’m UL, I throw the bank at him before the bigger name programs do.

Remembering people screaming for Travis Ford when Billy G. was fired at UK leaves me a little skeptical when it comes to handing the program over to a hometown hero.

He also has a higher ranked recruiting class than UK, UC and UL at Purdue. That’s jaw dropping.

I like Brohm's offense. I think he knows how to win football games. He knows it is not all glitz and glamor and exotic plays. It is execution, blocking and tackling and being tough. I firmly believe he realizes this deep down. I really like his recruiting prowess including his evaluation and development of talent. And maybe the thing I like about him most is that his players seem to really enjoy playing for him and the team. For example, I've not heard a peep out of Elijah Sindelar after Blough beat him out at QB.

IMO these qualities make him a prized coaching candidate nationwide---not just at Louisville.

He is a Louisville guy with hometown connections. This is the MAJOR reason he is seen as a must have for Louisville IMO. I would be careful if I were Louisville; they can't miss with this hire.

If Louisville is “expecting” anything involving titles, then there isn’t a single coach out there that’s going to satisfy those folks. UofL should have high expectations about competing, but any talk of titles is, in my opinion, just this side of complete nonsense.

He was that guy before this season is my point. Brohm was one of the first guys mentioned when talking about top coaching candidates.

Brohm will more than likely be the next head coach for UofL. A name I havent seen mentioned would be Brent Venables, he will be a head coach somewhere soon.
