The thing about Dino is he is from the West Coast.

A lot of the Trojan fanbase are wanting Dino Babers.

He’s a California guy though so that makes total sense. If he knocks off ND this weekend there will be moving trucks with a Trojan sign on the side of them on Sunday.

Which fans are we talking about? The diehard fans or the casual fans?

 

For the most part both. Those guys were heard of enough and talked about enough where if you even just watch espn, you knew about them. Those guys all had very good success that made them stand out. Those guys had their teams in positions to play for big bowls, which made them known. Which made big programs want them. Brohm so far has had one week where he really would have been heard of outside this general area.

 

I'm not saying Brohm wont ending up building to be like that. But right now he is not there. Third year at Purdue and still a chance may not even make a bowl game. Including a blow out lost just now to a bad Minnesota team. So no what he has done right now, isnt in the same even stratosphere as the coaches I mentioned who did get those top jobs. To where those fan bases were excited about the hire. Where a .500 coach at Purdue doesnt necessarily scream let's get excited when you are top program like USC

 

Now for UL this would be a great hire, and I am with you in that it's a step up for him. Now build UL back up, and have the success he can have there. Will lead to his name being that well known hot up and coming fan both casual and die hard fans know of.

USC fans know about Jeff. They are very in tune about college football all across the country.

 

Well as a Notre Dame fan. I know for me a 500 coach at Purdue wouldn't get me excited. I would have thought a top program like USC wouldn't exactly be happy about that, unless this missed out on a few bigger targets. We’ll just have to agree to disagree. It’s hard for me to comment on the casual fan side of college football I’m far from a casual fan. But we definitely agree on the last part which is the important part.

Scott Frost has UCF talked about and national stories on it, so yes. Urban Meyer had Bowling Green playing with the big boys and produced the number one pick of the draft. People across the nation knew him. Brian Kelly had UC a field goal away from playing in the National Championship. So yes people knew and heard of him, national news. Tom Herman from his time at OSU winning the title as OC and then having that year with Houston when they beat a top team and was starting to get in the conversation like UCF nationally. All those people did become house hold names because they were winning.

 

Brohm at Purdue has had one week where people would have heard his name, and yet his team still has a chance to not even go to a bowl game. So no Brohm is not a name people around the country probably really have heard much idea about, any why a USC fan base would probably not love the idea of a east coast guy who biggest job was being 500 at Purdue.

Utah is who I met, but that proves the point even more. He won at BG. Went to Utah who like Purdue was nothing and won. And. went there and was winning at a high level and did have his name well known across the country because of it, and that we before social media took off. Even in the world today of social media. Brohm is not a name unless in this area that is known as this top up and coming coach who wins that all top programs would definitely want. Those guys I mentioned were and had the wins to show it.And fan bases were probably excited as can be to get them. Right now Brohm has a big win on his resume but then also went and got blown out by a bad Minnesota team and now still fighting to even make a bowl game. So for top football programs like some say he should get. I dont see the overall fan base being excited for a 500 coach from Purdue, who hasn't shown he can win at a high level like the other coaches did.

Being on the list for high profile jobs seems like he's viewed pretty well nationally... Not really sure what measuring system you're using, but I'm not sure how you can agree he's been on and will continue to be on lists across the country but not be viewed that well. That's contradictory.

For the traditional powers I dont think he is at that level where if there is an opening and he wants it he would get it. Which is what it basically was like for the guys I mentioned.

I don't think anybody is saying he can pick the job he wants. At least I haven't taken them that way. I do think that he will be in consideration for most jobs that come open. Very few coaches in the game can pick and choose which job they want.

He is a very good coach and I think he will be a huge get for UL, and will get them back to where they were. Which in turn may get him to that level those other guys I mentioned were.

Not saying he is can't miss, but, he would be an upgrade in terms of culture and offensive imaginability.
