Winningest Football Teams in KY High School

Featured Replies

What are the top ten winningest programs of all time? Is it still roughly;

Male

Highlands

Mayfield

Bardstown

Owensboro

BG

Trinity

STX

etc...

I think Danville would be on that list.

Khsaa has following:

1. Highlands

2. Male

3. Mayfield

4. Danville

5. Paducah Tilghman

6. St. Xavier

7. Owensboro

8. Bowling Green

9. Ashland Blazer

10. Somerset

Prior to the 2018 season:

1. 885 Highlands (1915- ) 885-237-26; 6-6

2. 878 Male (1893- ) 878-328-49; 9-3

3. 873 Mayfield (1919- ) 873-255-32; 13-2

4. 781 Danville (1924- ) 781-243-34; 15-0

5. 776 Paducah Tilghman (1904- ) 776-331-25; 5-7

6. 760 St. Xavier (1917- ) 760-297-20; 12-3

7. 738 Owensboro (1893- ) 738-382-30; 4-7

8. 693 Bowling Green (1922- ) 693-334-35; 10-3

9. 687 Ashland Blazer (1900- ) 687-400-41; 10-3

10. 685 Somerset (1907- ) 685-402-43; 7-5

11. 674 DuPont Manual (1892- ) 674-461-37; 3-8

12. 650 Hopkinsville (1905- ) 650-476-33; 6-7

13. 647 Middlesboro (1921- ) 647-347-30; 2-9

14. 644 Hazard (1926- ) 644-333-20; 9-3

15. 633 Glasgow (1918- ) 633-381-29; 10-4

16. 615 Trinity (Louisville) (1955- ) 615-160-7; 15-0

17. 613 Bardstown (1912- ) 613-278-16; 3-7

18. 599 Russell (1926- ) 599-368-24; 5-6

19. 589 Paintsville (1923- ) 589-354-27; 11-2

Based on my public school education, Hazard should have passed up Middlesboro this season. That should be the only change from this list.

Fun fact: Highlands, Male, and Mayfield are second, third, and fourth in the country, respectively, in all time wins. Given how the #1 team in the country, Valdosta (GA), has been less dominant in their recent history, all of these teams could potentially pass them up in the next 5-10 years.

I thought Bardstown started FB earlier than that. 1909 maybe?

Love the list, but how do you define winningest (total wins from what I gather, but definitions may differ)? I would like to see the list filtered by era's going by 20 year cohorts. Some programs have been around much longer than others and thus its difficult to compare.

It would be interesting to see the top 5-7 from each interval, then compare and debate the top from each era.

Great information though.

Yep I’d like to see something like wins per season. That would be a little more accurate representation of a winning program.

Top 5 based on WPS:

2. Mayfield 8.91

3. Highlands 8.67

4. Danville 8.4

5. St. Xavier 7.6

I think those stats are what is most impressive. It takes into account what a program has done since its inception and not lean greatly on longevity of the school.

I would've thought Beechwood was somewhere in the mix but it look like they are not.

I would argue win percentage over this, I doubt many of the early seasons consisted of 10 or 15 game seasons.
