R.I.P. Bandit

Died of cardiac arrest in the hospital surrounded by family.

Rest in Peace Burt.

Thank you for being one of my childhood heroes and for saving Ned Beatty.

Man, that stinks.

I'll be honest, though. When I think of Burt Reynolds, the first thing I think of is Norm McDonald's impression of him on SNL during Celebrity Jeopardy.

Bit of a language alert:

First thing I think of is his laugh while driving that Firebird in Smokey and the Bandit.

“Smokey And The Bandit is playing at Bel-Air Drive-In in Versailles Indiana in two weeks. Had already planned on going. Now it’s definite.

Pontiac sold a lot of Trans Ams after that movie came out. I think they hooked Burt up with a new one, each year for several years.

RIP

He did a great job in Boogie Nights later in life.

Most of his roles were comedies but his best acting job was a serious role in Deliverance. The movie was nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture.

I lost track of his age. I always thought he was perpetually about 40......seemed like a good guy. RIP.

Burt felt he should have been nominated for an Oscar for Deliverence. Didn't happen.

He felt like he should have won the Oscar for Boogie Nights. Lost to Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting.

It gets lost in the shuffle that he created the game show 'Win, Lose or Draw' with Loni and Bert Convey. This helped him financially during a period when the movie scripts weren't coming in.

Maybe his best movie that wasn't in the mainstream was 1989's 'Breaking In' with Casey Siemaszko where they play small-town burglars.

There is a YouTube video of a couple of guys who went to the Burt Reynolds Ranch in Florida where part of Smokey and Bandit was filmed. It was grown up and not kept but was still an interesting watch.

I always liked the movie White Lightning but it hardly ever gets mentioned.

Sad.

Florida State wore these helmet stickers after Burt passed away...pretty cool if you ask me.
