Why would you take a shot at the NKY coaches? Basically you are saying they are not deserving of making the list. If you have lived in NKY all your life you would know why we come across as know it alls and can do no wrong attitude. It is because once you get North of Walton we basically don't exist to the rest of the state. We have been hearing for yrs that we should be part of OH.

Back to the thread though, your coaches are very well deserving as all the men that have been mentioned. Remember, these are personal opinions as everyone has a right to, even the people from NKY. Since you love NKY so much, maybe you should look into moving up here.:D

Wow, now we are getting into the public/private thing. That really surprises me!

Perhaps I inadvertently started this when I mentioned Hilton as the winningest public coach. He is second only to the NCC coach. My understanding is that his son is really the head coach, and he is the "figurehead, so to speak." Coach Emeritus??? Is that true? If so he can keep coaching and winning indefinitely and Hilton, and others will never catch him. You would be hardpressed to do such a thing in a public high school. Correct?

I'd add Ivan McGlone of Russell in there some where.

Can't be a list without Ivan McGlone's name on it!!:thumb:

If this is a not a list of current coaches only I would also include Walter Brugh as one of the best ever.

i really dont have enough info to make an accurate list...but id like to hear some opinions...ill throw some names out in no certain order

Larry French-Lincoln Co.

Mike Glaser-St. Xavier

Bob Redman-Male

Tom Larkey-Rockcastle Co.

Jim McKie-Scott Co.

Dixie Jones-Hopkinsville

Marty Jaggers-Mercer Co.

AH, what about Ivan McGlone of Russell.

I think to be on this list you should have won at least 1 state championship. I don't see how you could have a list without Russell's Ivan McGlone. That's not being bias it's just the truth. He is definately a top 5 coach in the state. I also think Phillip Haywood of Belfry must be on the list.

Bob Schneider is no where near the top of any credible list.

Bob Schneider is no where near the top of any credible list.

Why do you feel that way?

Bob Schneider is no where near the top of any credible list.

This is strong considering he is the winningest coach, if I have my facts straight.

Yes Oldbird, you've gotta explain that one!!! I did forget McGlone, Hilton and Haywood; sorry about that! These guys flat get it done as well.

I know I could get some flack for this, but Joe Nichols of Manual took a program that Jerry Mayes had pulled out of the gutter, and in his first year was able to take the team that nobody wanted (joke, joke) and was able to beat Male for the first time in 13 years. This year he's taken a team that few even suspected would make the playoffs and has surprised some folk. He had one losing season, going 4-6 in '03... yet one of those 4 wins was to the eventual state champion, Trinity. You also have to consider the lack of athletes that Manual takes in... his program molds some real players. He's got my props.

Nichols is a great coach, but I believe he won't get the props because of the lack of titles, but give him time and it could very well happen..

1. Dale Mueller-Highlands(going to build a new building to put state title tropies in)

2. Bob Schiender-NCC(heard he has won a few games)

3. Bob Redman-Male(I'll take "athletes" for $100 Alex)

4. Sam Harp-Danville(7 titles in 17 or so years at school, pretty good percentage if you go for that sort of thing)

5. Mike Glaser-St X.(Tigers tough, beat teams much)

6. Bob Beatty-Trinity(luck of the Irish I guess) :)

7. Joe Morris-Mayfield(been in the state semi's more times than Pres. Bush has said something stupid) wow!!

8. Mike Holcomb-Breathitt Co.(dem dere mountain boyz can shoore chunk dat hogball around; and win a lot of games and titles too!!)

9. Tom Larkey-Rockcastle Co.(trips to Louisville seem to go through Mt. Vernon a lot)

10. Mike Jackson-Pikeville(Panthers pound people, play near perfection, produce prizes) sorry, couldn't think of a good word for trophies that started with a "p"!!

:)

What? Ivan Mcglone -Russell-Joey Downs- B-town- just to name a few

Sorry Knute; I mentioned McGlone in a post after I put these up; just tried to do a top 10 but I am sure these guys deserve consideration too...probably should have put Downs in there as well-he is a heck of a coach.

Dudley Hilton- Bell CO.

Phillip Haywood- Belfry

Sam Harp- Danville

Ivan McGlone- Russell

Dale Mueller- Highlands

Schnieder- N.C

BOb Redman- Male

I could go on and on about who should, but there are a few that shouldn't be listed.

Matt Jaggers- not yet

Mike Jackson- will be there someday.

Mike Halcomb ? not very consistent year in and year out.

Ken Roark- 10 or 12 years head coach and 4 good years. 5 years not good

Mike Holcomb may not be as consistant year in and year out.

When you have a smaller school and cannot get the transfers that some of the other schools appear to be able to get, you have to develope the local talent which is a sign of a really good coach!!!!!!

42 wins & 0 losses over a stretch of three years, three state Championships with three different quarterbacks, IMO, takes some pretty good coaching.

Bob Schneider has a ton of wins because he has been around forever. He also has a ton of losses.

His offense was extremely vanilla until he turned over the reigns to his son. If there ever was guy who played every stuation "by the book" it was Bob.

He has two state titles, but he has to have considerably more talent than the teams he is playing to advance (how exactly did Beechwood beat him last year).

You can win lots of games, you can even win state championships, and that does not necessarily mean you are a great coach. I don't really think Glaser is anything to write home about, because I think given his situation many many coaches could do what he does. Ditto for Schneider. There are many coaches who could dupicate the results that Schneider gets on the field.
