Top 5 coaches in the state

Man with no safety? Looked that way every play 59-56.

I think you have Sam Harp confused with Bob Redmond. We are talking DANVILLE football, not Male. I don't recall Danville ever being in a 59-56 game. I do recall Trinity and Male hooking up in one in 4A. That must be the one you are referring to but you quoted Rice by mistake who thought you were talking about Harp. Confusing, aint' it?

I believe your thinking about Male not Danville.

Sorry but I think you are misinformed on this and your other comment. They have talent, but so did Harrodsburg. How many rings did they win? (Not a slam on Alvis, just a point to be made)

It's not just titles. Every year they are considered a contender and usually go and play that way. They take on 4A schools (Manual comes to mind), 3A schools (Southwestern, Boyle, Ft Thomas recently) and a lot of other top programs.

Hatz, they beat Manual the same year they beat Trinity with Brohm.

I think there are multiple conversations going on here and everyone but me is confused.:D

Im glad Coach Haywood got the respect he deserves. Anyone who has ever played for the man will tell you what Im going to tell you. His strategy is to make you a better player and a better person. That right there is a quality of a great coach. His goal is to make you play to the best of your potential and also to teach you to be all you can be in life. And you have those life lessons daily. If hes around you in school and you play for him you better answer your teachers or any elders by sir and ma'am or you will be running at practice. I remember one year I got off the bus at Ashland and my shirt must have came untucked. I got yelled at allt he way to the locker room over that.

He won alot of respect from me by teaching me more than ball. He taught me about life, God, and ball. He taught me to be the best you have to work the hardest. And to this day I can still call him and anything I need he will do for me. That is a quality of a good coach. On top of that though I never have seen a team improve from the beginning of the year to the playoffs as much as Coach Haywoods teams will do. Great coach.

Is Tom Duffy still coaching? He is an assistant but the Henderson games don't go on his record.

I think wins and records are a good tool but titles have to be just as great (if not greater) benchmark IMHO.

David Buchanan, Mason County High School. They didn't know how to spell football until he came to Mason County 11 years ago. Since then, they have won 2 regional titles (the school's first two) and he lead the KY/Tenn. all star team to a victory. He was successful at Paris before he came to Mason.

Of course im gonna have to go wit with Larry French looked what he has done with the program in lincoln.:thumb:

I think u have to look at what a coach has to work with talent wise and then make your conclusions on coaches...like Bob Redman at Male...hes a great coach and has done great things but look at what he has had to work with...and look at what Larry French has done not only at Lincoln but Meade and Mercer...talent is exactly easy to come by in any of those situations...but he still has produced solid ballteams...I guess what I'm trying to say is that a great coach shouldnt be judged by how much he wins but what he does with the resources available

I totaly agree with the whole not by how much a coach wins but how they turn a program around with what they have.

I know he is not coaching this yr but he will be back, Mike Yeagle. In 14 yrs as a head coach his record is somewhere around 125-23? Beechwood played in 10 state finals winning 8 of them setting a state record, at the time, 4 in a row losing the 5th yr by 1pt then winning the next 2 yrs.

He is in the record books already as many of the fore mentioned coaches are. My hat goes off to all of them.

I think Sam Harp is a little overrated...Danville maybe a small school but they have as much talent as any big school in the state

DO you think it's possible that coach Harp developed them to their talent level?Isn't that what top coaches do?Do you honestly think there are just that many athletes in DANVILLE,KY?

I've always heard that many Danville players don't make the grades. I'm not trying to be insulting I've just heard that.

AND I've heard that some men get Playboy for the articles!

You should think twice before repeating rumors like that!:irked:

We have failed to remember, Hillard Howard as well. Before he got to Letcher Central, he had Deramus, Hackney and a whole bunch of studs down in Pikeville in the late 80's and early 90's.

Also what about Mr. Smith at Boyle County, I won't even get into his stats.

The problem with threads like this is before long posters start posting why some coach shouldn't be listed instead of making their case for why their guy (or guys) should be top five. Lets keep up the positive posts about your favorite coach and leave the negative stuff off this board.
