Several comments:

1) It appears that at least from what findings we were given verbally by Mary Jo White, there was no cover up by either Urban and Gene.

2) Gene came out of this looking at fault, not Urban.

3) Urban clearly believes he did nothing wrong.

4) I’m going to read the written report before I comment any further and hopefully it illuminates some of the intricate details of the investigation.

5) Overall, it appears Urban is sort of taking the fall for Gene.

6) President Drake is an odd dude.

Overall he'll be away from the team for nearly two months...in the end that's pretty substantial.

This morning, I figured he would get time served and they would announce he followed protocol. But to come out and say he, nor Gene Smith didn’t follow procedures and then to only give him 3 games is astonishingly. How does Gene Smith keep his job. He’s in charge of all athletic coaches that have to report these things.

So it appears your non biased ears are hearing the same thing my biased ears are hearing, which is Gene didn’t do his job but Urban lived up to his duties and is only guilty of not digging into it more.

And on top of that while he may not be coaching practice or a game his coaches are by and large and extension of him. Plus I am sure he keeps regular contact with the coaches and team as well. He can’t coach them officially but he can talk to whoever he wants about whatever he wants. Hell, he is probably watching videotape of every practice and offering “input”.

Didn't the report say that neither Urban nor Gene did what they were supposed to do?

 

My impression is that Gene was taking some of the heat off of Urban.

A report said that Urban can coach practice after week 1.
