As a wise friend said to me today about 7-7’s “do you really think if we get the ball inside the 5 we are going to pass it”. 7-7 are good for the O to runs routes and work on the long ball. The teams with the fastest kids wins these match ups.

Two birds fly the nest and now apparently the grass on the hill is greener... interesting. Remember, “dontbelievethehype” till it is actual football.

 

Believe what? I answered a question about what took place on 7 on 7 today. Gave my input and you talk about leaving somewhere. It sure seems like your more concerned about who left an what not. By the way I expect NCC to run the ball just as much as the pass. They do have a tank goin to D1. An again in 7 on 7 today NCC look pretty good. Never knocked no other team here. But if you want to make funny remarks. Your than welcome to message me in my inbox anytime.

God please make it stop already. I was told by someone that was in attendance that if they had to rank the three teams today it would be as follows:

 

1. Anderson

2. Newport Central Catholic

3. Highlands

 

That is all that I have to add to the conversation. Carry on if you must.

Anderson looked pretty good right from the start against Highlands. Kept running guys deep and Highlands couldn't stop them. Anderson QB was on target on the deep balls. Highlands did get a few scores against them but couldn't keep up with the scoring that Anderson was getting.

 

NCC looked good against Anderson. Moved the ball well in the short to intermediate game and had a few deep balls that connected. Anderson didn't get the vertical game going against NCC and the Anderson QB didn't look as good on the medium routes as he did on the deep balls.

 

I don't know if Anderson was just working on different parts of their playbook against NCC or if NCC was really taking the deep stuff away and forcing them to throw underneath.

 

Someone asked earlier how Cramer looked. I thought he looked a little rusty. Wouldn't say bad my any means but looked exactly as you would expect from a QB in his first 7 on 7, that played baseball in the spring and just got back on the field after hernia surgery (per an earlier post). His arm looked strong and once he gets the reps in, he'll be fine.

 

I thought it looked like all the teams had positives they can gain confidence from but plenty of things that they can improve on.

Apparently, Anderson didn't bring their 1's and still looked very good, N.C.C. looked very much improved {I was impressed} from last years squad, and Highlands has some "very serious" work to do in their def. secondary. Ouch, not pretty.

Steve will do a great job at NCC. He knows how to build a culture...

7 on 7s are not the best way to judge a team. Congrats to NCC for having success. I'm sure Steve will have that team buying in and going 100%. For Highlands it could mean the secondary is weak or it could mean the secondary just needs to work on a few things. I thought that the secondary was mostly guys returning from last year right? Don't freak out one way or another, it's just 7 on 7s.

Were the instances of Highland's DBs getting beat because of blown coverages (early in season) or because they just aren't athletic enough? Too early to tell?

First of all, 7 on 7 isn't really a true test of what a team will do when the season starts. It gives the coaches a chance to see some kids in a decent environment. On some of the scores, the DB's weren't even looking for the ball, and got burnt. At other times, the rec's just made some great catches. The underneath stuff is very correctable. However, the over the top stuff should concern them. For the most part the kids are athletic. Football is a mental game, they just need to get their mind & body in-tune with one another. Great footwork is imperative for a corner & safety. It will get better. Of that, I'm confident.

A good pass rush or a hand in the Qb's face changes things. 7 on 7 is good to get a grasp on who your athletes are but I would never be too concerned about it. It's a practice tool like anything else, It's only part of the game. Running the ball and play action freezes the lb's and that is not existent in 7 on 7. I've seen all lb's 25- 35 yards down field to cover in 7 on 7, that will never happen in live 11 on 11. The QB has a clear view of the field doesn't have to move or slide, no real drop backs and that is unrealistic. Take it with a grain of salt.

We passed it inside the 3 last year in the Playoffs right before Halftime against South Oldham!:laugh:Do you remember what happened? I do.....Oh and I agree that the Teams with the Fastest kids win these feel good Competitions.
