RIP Mrs. Bush.

 

I am watching a tribute to her right now, everyone is speaking extremely highly about her.

I read a book by a former secret service agent and he stated that both Bush men were very well liked by the agents. But the Bush women were beloved by them.

I remember year ago when Bush jr was in office and having trouble with one of his daughters. Barbara Bush told the press that he had it coming as he was not easy to raise either. Loved that! No attempt pretend that their family was perfect.

I read today that she was sitting up in bed and drinking a bourbon.

 

Worse ways to go out.

I never paid too much attention to her but she always seemed like a decent person. RIP.

I've been watching her tributes the one that stood out for me was the 1990 Wellesley College speech. Here are the lines of the speech that told me what a down to earth, insightful and remarkable individual she was.

 

 

The third choice that must not be missed is to cherish your human connections, your relationships with family and friends. For several years you've had impressed upon you the importance to your career of dedication and hard work, and of course that's true. But as important as your obligations as a doctor, a lawyer, a business leader will be, you are a human being first and those human connections with spouses, with children, with friends are the most important investment you will ever make.

 

At the end of your life, you will never regret not having passed one more test, winning one more verdict, or not closing one more deal. You will regret time not spent with a husband, a child, a friend or a parent.

Her adult literacy initiative as First Lady was a step in the right direction as well.
