Should the manager look at who had a good night the previous game, a good week, a good month? Obviously career stats and matchups are important. But for those players where it is more iffy, what stats would you look at when you make out a lineup? In fact, let's do this. Make out your lineup for tonight. And keep Votto out of it because you agreed before the season started that this would be a day off for him. Why would you have predetermined days off? You are not working at the factory and want a vacation day.

To make sure you get the player days off and to give the player plenty of notice of when he is getting an off day. It is very difficult not to write Votto's name in the lineup every game. If you make the decision in advance, you don't second guess yourself and then end up not getting him days off at all.
April 13, 20188 yr When you are a losing team year in and year out for several years, I don't think you have a rival. You have to be competing for something with both teams having a chance to win to make it a rivalry. The Reds have no chance of winning.

Yeah, I'd imagine the Cardinals and fans laugh at the idea of this series still being a rivalry series.

In professional sports both teams have to be good to be considered a rivalry. Just look at the Yankees/ Red Sox. The rivalry hasn’t really been there since the early 00’s. 2009 is really the only year they have both been really good in recent history. This year they are both really good and all of the sudden the hatred is back. The fans will always have disdain for the other team, but when the players start getting in on it that’s what really makes a great rivalry. I’m sure Molina still gets booed at GABP but outside of Votto I’m not sure anyone on the Reds bench would even know why. If the Reds ever become good again and Molina is still playing I think we would see some of that bad blood come back.

April 13, 20188 yr Why in the world do you bring another guy in for his MLB debut when down only 5-4? I know why, because he is a fresh arm that you just brought up from Louisville. And then when it blows up, you bring in the guy that gave up a win two nights prior to give up even more runs. This team looks totally uninspired and it is a direct reflection on the clown making out the lineup day in and day out. Every interview is full of excuses and it just wasn't our night or whatever stupid thing he wants to say. Everyone thought that the pitching was improved, however those that show the most promise only thrown an inning or two a week and they just run some other hack out there to take a beating. I was at the game last night and left as soon as Weiss gave up the first home run because I knew that the Reds had thrown in the towel at that point.
April 15, 20188 yr I've said it over and over ...Price should have never been hired in the first place. Hire a manager to turn a team around / to be competing for the division, playoffs in every season ....and they hire a man with Zero managing experience, :idunno:. The Reds front office got exactly what they pay for. BTW, the NYY have done the same this season, I hope that they don't pay the same last place price. I don't think they will bc 1. A. Boone has grown up w / baseball, managing from birth and has probably forgotten more baseball than Price will ever know about running a team. 2. The NYY management would not continue to reward constant last place failure. 3. NYY obviously has more money / talent to work with .....but that imo doesn't excuse the Reds from keep re hiring Price. April 15, 20188 yr How about this example? Clint Hurdle with Pittsburgh. You can’t tell me the Pirates have more talent in their MLB roster than the Reds especially after trading MCCuthen and Cole yet they seem to be at least in the hunt and obviously this year are playing real well
