April 6, 20188 yr Who else has not had their scholarship renewed? Ive heard one more wanted to leave, and NKU has told them they would release him, but he hasnt decided what he is going to do yet. Im told another one wants to leave but NKU will NOT release him.
April 6, 20188 yr If a coach isn't trying to get the best players he can get every year, then he isn't doing his job. A player is only recruited "over" if the guy coming in preforms better than him. Don't want to lose playing time to a new recruit? Then be better than he is, period, and make the coach HAVE to play you over him. It's how teams get better. Will add the returning player has a leg up with years of experience in the system, college training and nourishment environments, and knowledge of what it takes to succeed at the D1 level. The term -"recruited over" sounds like an excuse in advance of results.
April 6, 20188 yr Williams and Faulkner leaving is not a good look for Brannen. Both are KY kids and were playing a lot of minutes. Other in-state kids should think twice before signing. I think these two leaving sends a message about Brannen's loyalty, that he will recruit over you. I know he is trying to raise their profile but it's not like these kids weren't producing. For goodness sake Williams had 21 and 9 against UK in the NCAA tourney as a freshman and followed that up with a solid sophomore year. Why is “recruit over” a bad thing?
April 6, 20188 yr Why is “recruit over” a bad thing? Its not, it just looks bad. Everyone has to remember that NKU is in a transition right now. From entry into D1 to being a mid level D1 contending team. Its part of the process.
April 6, 20188 yr So how does Faulkner and Williams find another team? It’s not like they go back to the AAU circuit. Do coaches just constantly review verbal commits or do the players have to start sending resumes? These guys are being contacted/recruited constantly even after they've signed.
April 6, 20188 yr Absolutely no idea on the situation for either kid. @Bench may have some inside scoop. I’d be shocked that a kid who has a full ride and has been on the team for 2 years would want to just leave for more playing time. Not like the NBA is in the future for either one. A degree should be a top priority and they are halfway home. The question wasn't asked of me so I didn't want to say. I think I answered the question in my previous post though. Neither of them were forced out, but they weren't going to be happy with the roles that they were going to be given so they are no longer on the team. The next one to go absolutely loves Coach Brannen, but he wants to play too. So he will more than likely look elsewhere.

April 6, 20188 yr What do you project as NKU's starters and rotation next season?Way too soon to say. Drew will start
April 6, 20188 yr Way too soon to say. Drew will start Then give us the top 7 or 8. I am trying to figure out who on next year's roster is better than Williams and/or Faulkner and would take their minutes.

April 6, 20188 yr Then give us the top 7 or 8. I am trying to figure out who on next year's roster is better than Williams and/or Faulkner and would take their minutes.Who I know, right now, will be on next years roster: Drew Vogt Tate Walton Djoko Sharpe Nelson Faulkner, T. Mocaby Childress Adheke Who are the top 7 or 8 out of that? Not sure. Lot on there that I don't know. Anyone else I am either certain they're going to leave or it's up in the air. And, of course, something else could change at any time.
April 7, 20188 yr Ive heard one more wanted to leave, and NKU has told them they would release him, but he hasnt decided what he is going to do yet. Im told another one wants to leave but NKU will NOT release him. If true, why not release the kid? The coach is free to leave at any point he wishes, why not grant the kid his wishes. If a kid isn't happy and feels like he is better off elsewhere, let him go.

So there are 11 players better than Williams and M. Faulkner, and the only one we know is a starter is Drew.
April 7, 20188 yr So there are 11 players better than Williams and M. Faulkner, and the only one we know is a starter is Drew. I don’t think it’s about who’s “better”. Everyone has a role. Some of these kids may fill those roles better than others. Maybe Mason and Carson didn’t want to accept the roles they were going to be expected to play. Both are great players. Sometimes it just isn’t a fit.

I hope Mason and Carson both go somewhere they can have their big games and accomplish all of the personal goals they hope to accomplish.
