What has Coach Lickert done at CCHS that makes you think that he has the coaching ability to lead any team to a State title? I realize that NCC has won State in the past, but that doesn't mean that it will happen in the future.

I'm not saying you are, but when you come in this thread with that name instantly going negative, no one is not going to believe you're not bitter because your coach left for a better opportunity.

It's not just what he did at Campbell Cty. Each time he has moved to a new school, he's left the old school in better shape than they were before he got there. NCC will be his first stop where there's a real chance of winning a title. It may not be easy, but NCC is much closer to contending than any other school he's coached.

How is going to a Class 2 school from a Class 6 school a "step in the right direction"?

CCHS beat NCC 35--7 last year, do you really think that the coach was the reason for the Camel win?

 

All things considered, a 6A team should be beating a 2A team 35-7.

 

There's an obvious difference in small schools and large schools. Not all coaches are cut out to do one or the other, but Lickert's resume includes 1A Dayton, 4A/5A Holmes, and 6A Campbell County.

 

Dayton

Lickert coached the Green Devils to the first of their two winning seasons in the last 20 years.

2004 (3-7), 2005 (4-6), 2006 (6-5)

 

Holmes

Lickert coached the Bulldogs to both of their only winning seasons in the last 15 years.

2007 (4-6), 2008 (3-8), 2009(9-3), 2010 (8-3)

 

Campbell County

If you look at Lickert's time at CC, the season records have basically been an up and down of the same general thing that has been the hallmark of the last 20 years of Camel football. A few good seasons, a few bad seasons, but mostly something kind of in between.

2011 (4-8), 2012 (7-5), 2013 (8-4), 2014 (6-5), 2015 (1-10), 2016 (4-8), 2017 (7-5)

 

Any job change for a coach is a chance being taken. There are lots of variables that remain undetermined - player talent, school administration, community and parent support, and assistant coaching staff to name a few of the obvious ones. Fact is, Lickert is leaving a program where he essentially managed to maintain the status quo, and is headed to a program that has been to the state championship game 7 times in the last 11 years, and has won championships 2 of those 7 times.

Agree that at least they went pretty far outside the box. Never in a million years would I have guessed Lickert would be NewCaths coach. His name never even came across my radar. Thinking, like a lot of us, he’s teaching at a public school and tenured has the retirement perk. Now if he can stay a teacher at CC while coaching at NCC then he hit a home run. Like said before he and the CC program have probably taken each other as far as they can. Good luck

 

This could be one of the issues.

 

I'm pretty sure Lickert has certification to be a principal. I would guess that career track could be a factor in this decision, irrespective of being at a public school or not.

 

Also pretty sure the Campbell schools do not allow Principals to be Head Coaches.

 

All in all, this may be less about football and more about career / retirement / etc...

If you understand what drives coaches, you would know exactly why SL took the job. A lot people believe that their are only 4 NKY jobs that you can win a State Championship. Highlands, Cov. Cath. , Beechwood, and Newport Central Catholic.
