I don't put much stock in the AP poll, guys.

 

I'll restate it this way ... in my opinion, Raceland isn't one of the top 10 teams in Class A. And I don't feel that a legitimate top-10 team in 3A should lose to Raceland.

Woosdsrider you are entitled to your opinion as anyone is. Now can I ask you what you base you opinion of Raceland on? You seem to state it without giving a reason as to why. Have you seen Raceland play this year? If it(your opinion) is just bc Raceland is a class A school with Ashland being a AAA school then that is pretty weak and I am entitled to that opinion. Now one other thing that you did not answer is that what does a Raceland/Ashland game in week 1 have to do with a JC/Ashland game in week 9? Several people have ask this I believe w/o a clear answer. Seem to me that you are just talking in circles w/o really saying anything. As for "your opinion" poll as you called it I put about as much stock in it as you do the AP polls.

I hope JC wins this one for my old UK pal Eddie Blair. Can anyone tell me if he is still coaching the youngsters over there?

JC looks stronger but I do take note of their schedule being soft making it a tough call on how good they are but on the other hand Ashlands loss to a good but not great Raceland team also leaves me scratching my head in this one though the Ash/Race game was early in the season

My top 10 would look like this ...

 

1. Bowling Green

2. Highlands

3. Covington Catholic

4. Lexington Catholic

5. Louisville Central

6. Franklin County

7. Johnson Central

8. Hopkinsville

9. East Jessamine

10. Rockcastle County

I think this would be a very reasonable poll. If you look at it JC is the only uproven team and could fit in anywhere between #3 and#10. I don't think there is any question in JC's talent. The question is, do they know how to win the big game. Last years team did not do that. Every great program has to start somewhere. Ours is making progress. A win against Ashland would be big for the program. If Highlands, Cov. Cath, or Bowling Green gets beat this weekend people are not going to wonder if they are a fluke or not, they have the respect that JC fans yearn for, because they have taken care of buisness year in and year out. I believe JC should win this game and I believe this will be a step in earning the respect this team is able to demand.It will take at least two playoff wins this year for this team to gain that respect. A regional championship is unheralded at JC, but it is very obtainable. If this team plays to their capability I don't think it will be close. JC45 Ashland 12.

You are entitled to your opinion. My opinion is that your opinion about Raceland not being a top 10 team doesn't hold much water since they are rated # 7 in a few polls.

 

The only other team that is ranked below Raceland that I feel should be ranked ahead of them is LCA.

I'm not the only one that doesn't see Raceland as a top-10 team. The BGP poll doesn't see them as one either, and hasn't since they lost to LCA.

That isn't what I said. I feel that Raceland is a borderline top-10 team, at best, in Class A. Top 10 teams in 3A shouldn't be losing to those types of teams. That's why I question Ashland's top-10 ranking.

I would say Johnson Central could be #6 at best ... they've beaten no one so far that would merit a ranking above LexCath and Central, both of which have beaten teams of better quality.

It's also because Highlands, CovCath and BG have beaten quality teams this season, teams better than anyone JC has beaten.

I agree with westsider on most of this. The only thing is you really can't judge Ashland by the loss to Raceland. They played without three offensive lineman and with their best WR playing QB. Despite that they outgained Raceland 2 to 1 in total yardage. That game really is not a good indicator. Sometimes good teams just lose a game they should not.

 

As for Johnson Central. They really havn't played anybody. Lets see what happens this week. That should give us a better idea of how good either of these teams are.

This should ne a great GAME, it is "just a game", kids... playing... a game.

What I find funny about this thread is that we have yet to see one Ashland poster. But we have Raceland fans on here posting against for a Ashland blowout, I guess it makes you feel inferior with your win over Ashland. Ashland is the best team on JC's schedule, no one on here doubts that. Ashland is a good overall ball club, no one doubts that. But anyone who was at that game last Friday night when they played LC and then comparing that to how JC played LC knows that JC is the better team. JC knows what is on the line here. We dont need anymore fuel to add to the fire. I for one hope the classy ppl of Ashland bring their Wide Right T-shirts. Thinking about this game gets me fired up and wishing that we could play tonight. I can just imagine how these young men feel. This game has all the makings of a great rivalry and a head knocking battle. Both teams will rise to the occassion this game knowing what all is on the line, will play its best game of the year to date. Ashland does in my opinion have some edges in this game, such as the kicking game, and possibly a better core of recievers, but still yet I believe JC will win this game and by a 2-3 TD margin and heres why:

 

1.) This game is at JC. We are expecting a crowd bigger than last years Apple Bowl which had app. 8,000 in attendance. Ashland always has a good following but I believe that JC's fans will rise to the occassion this game and give our boys that extra home field advantage.

 

2.) In the trenches JC seems to be the more physically dominating and quicker team. Ashland has a bigger O-line but I look for the speed on the D-line of JC to cause problems for the blocking assignments. In the game against LC, Ashlands D-line was blown off the ball many times which allowed for good gains on the ground, which leads me to believe that the O-line of JC should have its fair share of success as well.

 

3.) The last key of the game for me is the depth of running backs and quarterbacks of JC should make it hard for Ashland to key on specific players. JC has used 6 or 7 backs routinely throughout the season and should continue that into this game. Ashland will probably see some things that they havent seen out of JC this year in this game, a more previlant passing attack and a healthy backfield, which until the Greenup Co. game, never had all of its starters on the field at the same time.

Oldrambler , you can talk till your blue in the face to westsider. If Raceland was to have beaten Trinity you still would not get any respect. Some way or another he would try to come up with some logic that Raceland was still unworthy of any ranking. He seems to really get off on this stuff. Now you know it feels to be "westsided". As I said in a thread the other day, the best thing for anyone to do is to completely ignore anything that he posts, because it will be 100% negative against anything and anybody that lie east of I-75. Want to bet that he has not seen Raceland play this year, or bet that he at no time in his life ever seen Raceland play period? I would almost guarantee that he has never, ever at one point seen Johnson Central play at any sport as well. Yet he is still the all knowing expert. Some you guys need to learn the mentality that you are dealing with, in respect to how he feels about us eastern folk and his superiority complex concerning our knowledge of anything, and just plain ignore him and go on.

Yeah lets see how high the road is if Ashland were to win the game. You wont be able to type a word in edgewise with our friendly neighbors to the north. Cant you figure out that this is a calculated strategy?:lol:

 

I think that it's more like people that dont even reside in our area and have never seen any of our teams play that are looking for and provoking the fight.
