Jackie Ed
The only issue I see with this proposed idea, would parking. Who wants to hike up that hill? It was bad enough walking from the bottom lot to the third floor with a back pack.
mexitucky
Yes. The cost of all the earthwork and stabilization for a football stadium ON CAMPUS at New Cath is insanely cost-prohibitive, as far as I'm concerned. You're talking a million dollars plus in earthwork before you even start touching the cost of the actual stadium construction. That's madness - especially when you consider the fact that you'll have high school and a stadium and virtually nowhere to park for either of them. What about adding on a football stadium down at the Morscher Sports Complex? You can’t put a price tag on your legacy
Colonels_Wear_Blue
If the lead donor is who many claim he has more than enough equipment for the job and millions is no problem if he wants to make it happen. Sorry it will take more work than was needed at CovCath but would it have been worth it for your Colonels? So why not the young men and women of NewCath. I'm not saying it wouldn't be a great thing. I'm saying it would be a fiscally irresponsible thing. Big difference. And this is far from me trying to make an argument about Cov Cath versus New Cath. I'm a really REALLY big Breds fan. I'd love to see New Cath keep everything going academically and athletically right where they are on top of The Hill, but to say it would be financially challenging would be the understatement to beat all understatements. New Cath is holding classes a in a school building that was built in 1954. If you look at the high schools that are struggling the most in the diocese, they're not the ones that have had major renovations and upgrades to the school building in recent years. You could make good arguments either way on whether or not that's a cause or effect, but the new school facility makes a difference. The changes your discussing will be both extremely extremely costly, and it will also create even more of a parking headache than there already is at New Cath. I don't know exactly how many spaces the parking lot at New Cath holds versus the parking lot at Cov Cath, but Cov Cath football games consistently fill their parking lot, plus the grass "graveyard" field along the highway, plus between a third and a half of St. Agnes' parking lot. New Cath's lot would be insanely small...plus I'd be very interested to hear an actual engineer/architect's discussion of how much seating they could squeeze up there alongside of a football field, because as someone who has been the general contractor on multiple high school and college sports stadiums, I can tell you that it's not going to be a lot. Colonels_Wear_Blue
You can’t put a price tag on your legacy I've got no idea who this donor is, but I can tell you that the price tag is going to be HA-YUGE if whomever it is plans on footing the entire bill for the hill stabilization, earthwork, and stadium. And they're still going to leave a legacy as "The person who killed the parking on The Hill".
KentuckyJoe
Current practice field turned to parking lot would hold 2 or 3 times the amount of cars as current lot

NamecipS
Is there any chance this donor buys out the businesses at the bottom of the hill and puts the new stadium in the old Kmart lot? Seems like that might be more realistic with the amount of money being talked about.
Rap
I can't help but ask again, why all this now? Enrollment is down, coach just got fired or forced to resign due to parent issues. And now let's force a football complex into a site that anyone viewing this without a vested interest can see is a huge mistake and trying to fit a round peg in a square hole. Do you really think this has any chance of happening? Maybe 10 years ago it may have had a shot but it seems financially irresponsible to do. Just because someone says someone is willing to give up millions of dollars to do it doesn't mean hey let's do this and take this guys cash. What happens if this schools enrollment continues to decline and 10 years from now the school closes? The property becomes very valuable as it already is and the field gets demolished for some massive development? I just can't see it happening . Leaving room for parking ETC.
Rap
So say you turn the practice field into a parking lot now what happens on Monday-Thursday when you have football practice and boys and girls soccer has triple headers on Monday,Tuesday and Thursday? Soccer is typically played on those 4 days not as much on weekends so they are going to need that football field for their games . Where does the football team go, to the KFC parking lot? You can't get rid of the practice field and accommodate 6 soccer teams (frosh,jv,varsity) girls and boys , and a football team. Or is this field only for the football team and soccer will stay at Moescher. If that's the case your going to have some upset soccer players but situation is solved there. Guess it really depends on how much dirt "he" wants to move. With enough time and money, anything is possible.
ECSM
Word I heard this weekend is that is going to happen. Engineering is taking place now and hoping to get started asap. Take that with a grain of salt. Heard there is quite a bit of money going to be donated and seems like it will be enough to cover expenses. Main donor has been up on the hill with current topographic plans for about a month or more now reviewing the site. Hope it happens, but I also hope the school is around to enjoy it? All this taciturn discussion about "he" and "potential donor"...we're all speaking of Wayne Carlisle here, correct?

Jackie Ed
Why does everyone keep saying hope the school will be around to see it? Just bc numbers are going down doesnt mean the school is going to close. There will always be people willing to pay for a catholic education.
