Lyft vs. Uber

Featured Replies

People realize that Uber and Lyft drivers often work for both companies, don’t you?

Not much difference in the two from my vantage.

Yep. A lot of the drivers have turned this into a career as well.

I drove for both for a year and a half (full time). I never saw a long-term difference. On any given day one might pay a little more, but it equaled out in the end.

Because there were fewer Lyft drivers when I started, it was not uncommon to be called 15 minutes away, only to give a $3 ride. Needless to say, I often shut off the Lyft app.

Believe it or not, I have never taken an Uber/Lyft ride as a passenger.

Oh, and btw, it's gotten a lot tougher to make this a full-time job. There are a TON of new drivers out there, resulting in more dead time.

I would guess, overall, you are probably right but in my small sample size of people that I have talked to and the people on here, it seems the only complaints are with Uber. Someone did bring up that a lot of drivers do both but as TAC pointed out, Lyft has a more thorough background check.

One guy we talked to was a driver for Lyft only and someone asked him if he did both. He said no. Lyft offers driver bonuses each week that include number of rides and he couldn't meet that number if he split up his rides. Is this new? Does Uber offer that? Seems like Lyft might be trying to keeps drivers on their side.

Never used either, but I rarely go to places where its needed.

Yes totally understand they work for both companies as referenced in posts 3 and 5.

I think the difference is, Uber’s branding is similar to Kleenex in the tissue market.

I use uber 2 or 3 times a week and I don't think I've ever had a bad experience.

That's a very good analogy. The whole concept we are talking about here is refereed to by a lot of people as "Ubering". Uber has become a verb as in, "I'm going to Uber home". Similar to how a lot of people call tissues, Kleenex, regardless of the brand.

I have never used Lyft, but I have used Uber about 10-15 times and it has been GREAT each time.

Uber has been very convenient and a good experience for me.

Have you noticed a difference in pricing, especially for peak times? I only have used Uber, but may download Lyft for the times when the Uber prices are not good if it is worth it.

I think Uber has more peak pricing occurrences, but their peak pricing doesn't last as long due to their having more drivers out there to reduce the peak. I've found Lyft to generally cost more money...but it's difference of 5, 10, or maybe 15 cents per mile, so it rarely adds up to too much of a difference for me since I seldom get a ride that's any more than maybe 10 miles, tops.

I've used both and have no real preference. Never had a bad experience with either.

"Millennials killed the taxi companies".

Taxi companies killed the taxi companies.

Taxi companies killed the taxi companies.

Completely agree.

That's how I feel about most things that "millennials killed".

Is there anyone like me? I'll take taxies all day long. Something about Uber and Lyft makes me incredibly uncomfortable. I feel the same way about Airbnb. I'll do hotels, b&B's etc. I do not want to be in a stranger's home
