Charles Manson has died.

As a general rule I'm against the death penalty. This is one of the exceptions. This guy should have been dead long before I was even born.

I almost posted this exact same thing GNKY! The only thing is that the murders occurred when I was a little kid...I was already born

He was given the death penalty, then about a year later the SCOTUS declared them unconstitutional and his sentence was changed to life as was everyone else on death row in the country.

I remember that my parents did not want me to watch the "Helter Skelter" movie when I was younger.

I was 15 when those murders occurred. It’s unbelievable the power of persuasion that some people have over others. Simply unreal. Manson didn’t murder anyone but as their cult leader convinced others to do the evil deed.

The Heaven’s Gate cult leader, Marshall Applewhite, convinced nearly 40 of the membership, many of them with college degrees, to kill themselves!

Wonder what the total spent of taxpayers money was over his 46 years in prison?

I remember feeling shocked the first time I read that.

Question, why are we idolizing this guy because he died?

A KSR caller stated today that his Mom had been living in Ashland when she died.

I always heard he had some ties to Ashland and Olive Hill.

I always thought that Steve Railsback nailed the Manson character.

According to Wiki his mother's hometown was Ashland, Ky before she ran away from home to Cincinnati where she had Charlie at 16 at the General Hospital (Now the University Hospital).

I started to compile info about his upbringing to post, but it's so crazy, disturbing, and involved that I'll just post the link for anyone who's interested. It is rather interesting, and pretty much shows that from the word "go" his life was a mess.

Check out this photo of him at age 13 when he was at Boys Town in Nebraska where he only stayed for 4 days before escaping with another boy robbing stores with him on their way to the other boy's uncle's place where they were arrested after the 2nd burglary.

How did he not get killed in prison by someone wanting to make a name for themselves.

He did get attacked by an inmate back in the 80's. The guy poured paint thinner on Manson and lit him up but only burned about 20% of his body.

News said his mom was a prostitute. Rough life.

I know a guy whose mother was a prostitute, and at the age of 5 he was adopted by parents who sent their own children to Covington Latin, and while he hadn't developed to that level to go there considering his rough start, he's completely thankful for their guidance in his life because he knows that without a doubt things would have been entirely different for him otherwise.

He still recalls a bit regarding poor speech habits, and how he was reshaped to be able to speak properly.

He's a super decent responsible guy now around 40 raising his own family, and is also a tremendously healthy body builder with an impeccably scientific diet where he eats stuff like cans of tuna and bags of raw spinach, or baked chicken breast and raw broccoli on a regimented schedule.
