As far as Highlands dropping down to 4A, have they always been in the same district with CovCath? It seems like when one of them changes classes, they both do. If CovCath has to stay in 5A, would Highlands stay there just to be in the district with them?

I would like those who are posting about getting more outside Talent, how much talent do you really think Highlands has had from outside in the past? 1 player, 2 players, 10 players?

Unless I'm mistaken, Highlands and Cov Cath have competed in the same football district for the last 50 years, yes.

For those that have been around BluegrassPreps for a while: They just need to work harder.

 

 

I partially said that in jest from previous conversations on the site, but in reality, that may be part of the winning formula. Many are saying "they need to draw talent from elsewhere" and to be quite honest, I see that as a copout. Every team in the state could do better if they got better talent from some other place and that is not what should be seen as a solution. In my mind, high school football is about getting the best production out of the players you have. So, working harder, or smarter, or more efficiently, or better may be what is needed.

Does Highlands have as many players as they used to? I remember when they played FS in 2011 that Highlands had over 100 players dressed out.

Cut the head off the snake. The issues either:

 

A) Start there, or

B) Dale Mueller was even better than we thought.

I lot of impact players at the start of of Dale’s run. I only know of Harris and Wrobleski at the end, but close to all of the “great” Dale teams had impact players from outside of FtThomas. I don’t see the big deal, but it has been a sticking point on both sides of the argument.

They may have dressed 100, but there were not 100 football players

First thing that needs to happen is for the coaches to take a step back, look in the mirror and decide how hard they want to work.

 

Then take a good hard look at your roster and honestly determine what kids are 'players' and which ones just want to put on the uniform.

 

I want a team that has coaches that are hungry and going to hold kids accountable and most importantly the BEST will play. No more two platooning.

 

I want kids on the field who want to be there, and are going to give me effort on every single play. Some kids are not great practice players, but when the lights go on, I can count on them to give it their all.

During the monster run they had around 3-4 total players out of over 100 most years. Lost more than that to schools out of the district.

Frisk, Smith, Lorenzen, Hamblen, Smith, Nevels, Stowers, Mitchell, Harris and I believe Wrobleski. Those are 9 all state caliber players. The majority of players did come from Ft Thomas,but to say that there has been no impact from kids who attended the school from out of District isn’t true. Those are All Time greats for the program.

I agree. Kids from outside the Ft don't seem to be coming like they used to. I believe the entire staff needs to go, clean house start over.

I agree. They could drop in next realignment and spend a few years before playing up again.

 

Just to set outsiders like me straight. It is true that at the last classification realignment that Highlands asked to play up. Correct?

Today, are the numbers of male kids at Highlands more than at that last classification, less or about the same?

 

It would be interesting if Highlands decides to drop down to 4A. However I don't think they will because Covcath will be 5A. Even with all the years of defeats Covcath had to Highlands. Covcath never decided to say hey let's try to get away from those guys because they are to good for us. When Highlands has petitioned to move to 5A Covath did to. Then they both went back down to 4a, and then last realignment both asked to move up. Covcath never stepped away or tried to get away from Highlands. So even though Highlands is down compared to normal. I think they have to much pride to try to admit defeat and say we need to move back to 4a to get away from Covcath and regroup. So i dont see them deciding to take the easy route and going back to 4a. I think they will look at ok how do we get back to playing with Covcath.
