Why would the Yankees want 2 more outfielders? Damon, Cabrea, Matsui, Abreu then Griffey and Dunn..That would be crazy. And I'm not a Reds fan but it would make me sad to see ARod come to cincy. The team has chemistry now but if you add A-Rod to the mix then you're taking away any of that chemistry you had built up as a team. And with that chemistry gone who knows what could happen to the other teammates, they could turn against one another.

October 11, 200619 yr Not only calling out other players in the media but Sheffield was the idiot who called out Torre after game 4 and said it was his fault that the Yankees lost that game. Sheffield is a clubhouse cancer, has been ever since he entered this league. I remember back when the Braves got him from the Dodgers, he said the same thing any player says when they get traded to a good team "I always dreamed about playing for Atlanta, I was hoping to get drafted by them". Then what does he says 2 weeks before October a year later. "I question this teams desire to win in the finals weeks of the season". It's stupid things like that, that makes teams not want him anymore. :thumb: Sheffield has a tendacy to get under your skin real quick. I have never liked him.

Dunn and Ross (still an unbelievably laughable offer) fill neither need.

Fans bear the burden of carrying these salaries and then, often teams must be dismantled and move to the bottom of the ladder, as a result of not being able to afford players. It's been a while, for us Detroit fans since we've had something to cheer about. Leyland was the key, to what Tramel had begun. While fans bear the burden of high salaries, they are also ultimately responsibile for the high salaries. No owner will ever agree to one-year contracts. Its up to baseball to figure out how to ensure the small market teams can compete fairly.

How are fans ultimately responsible for the high salaries?....Because they continue to pay the tickets prices, to watch professional sporting events....Sorry, don't agree they are responsible but like we both agree on, they help pay them but are not the reason the salaries, are what they are. Free-agency has destroyed professional sports, from a revenue and salary base. Some larger markets can afford higher $150mil±, while others are in the $50mil± area....much too great a difference and how often do players, have a good year right before free-agency, then sign a ridiculous contract. Then the trickle down effect starts, I'm a SS and fairly good, so if player "A" is making $65mil per year, than all of a sudden my $5mil per year, is not enough....the cost gets passed along to the fans or the bulk is deferred, back-ended or the player received a large signing bonus, only to be moved later in the contract, because they never had any intention of paying him later in the contract years. Well then the argument would be, "if the fans don't pay for tickets, the salaries would drop"....no, they would look to move the franchise, or demand a new stadium be built or "we'll leave".... Make no mistake, the salaries are a result of two things.... 1) Players greed 2) Free-Agency and Owners, trying to keep up with other Owners. Just my thoughts.

The owners base their payroll on expected revenue. Where does the revenue come from? You and me through ticket sales or through us watching the YES network which allows the team to collect advertising revenue. So, its 100% on us as fans. We love the product so much that we continually pay the increasing ticket prices and continually watch the games on TV. "Players greed" is simply a byproduct of this. They see a very large pie , realize they're the reason there is a large pie, and then demand the pie. I completely get that. Your point regarding teams moving to another market simply backs up what I'm saying. There will always be some city willing to pay the piper to have MLB. IMO we cannot complain about baseball salaries or pricing when we're paying them. The only thing we can complain about is how the money we're paying them is shared from team to team.
