If NewCath or Highlands can’t win, I root for ex-teammates that are coaching.

I pull for Beechwood, Danville and Raceland when they don't play Mayfield.

I pull for my Alma mater Oxford High school in Alabama. They finished the regular season undefeated and ranked 2 in the 6A poll.

My team is Raceland but in games not involving Raceland I pull for ......

I always root for the local schools to do well. Raceland, Greenup and Ashland are high on my list, as well as both Carter County schools. You should always want to see your local teams succeed, even if they're rivals. It raises the overall level of football in the area.

 

Statewide, there's a lot to admire about Mayfield's program. I enjoy seeing them do so well, year after year, decade after decade. Their consistency is incredible. Sometimes they're blessed with some great athletes, but mostly they're just blessed with an abundance of really, really good football players... and coaches.

I have found myself rooting for two teams. Collins, who our kids have developed a great relationship through summer 7v7 and I really enjoy their staff. Highlands, who’s parents decided to feed our team after the Cov Cath game last year one week after we beat them. That act made an impact on our kids and myself as well. So, Collins and Highlands.

As a Cov Cath fan I feel like I pick a different team each year to follow who is an underdog/ Cinderella team (Holy cross last year, ludlow this year). I typically always root for Ryle though in 6A.

I agree with all that you listed but had to highlight a couple ...I definitely respect the Mayfield tradition, as well as your Red Devils, Greenup and Ashland. I want to agree with the "all local teams", and I do but with that one exception in west Ashland / Westwood section :stop: . I would be lying to say I did pull for them.

I'm pretty sure it was my junior year when we played Ashland in the 97 playoffs, the Tomcats had a cornerback who was missing an arm from the elbow down. He was one of the toughest playing, most effective defensive backs I've ever seen. I'll never forget after pregame when our coaches made a point to tell our entire team to watch that kid and to pay attention to him because THAT was what it meant to play hard, overcome obstacles, and do what it takes to play the game you love. I've never respected another competitor in the field more.

 

I've had a hard time not loving the Tomcats ever since. I always follow their action during the season.

Since my alma mater doesn't have football I always cheered for Beechwood since I had a very close friend play for them. I also like Danville and Gallatin County because of family connections. Other than them, it's cool to see Ludlow, Bellevue, and Dayton do well.

 

St. X (OH) is my main team overall, though.
