Boyle football parents meet with superintendent, principal

Featured Replies

You can choose to have a positive impact or a negative impact, and a lot of what I am seeing on BGP is mainly negative.

If parents parent and let coaches coach all would be good. That doesn't happen much anymore...

How often do you hear of the parents meeting with the Super???

I think the key question is. How many parents was at this meeting? I talked to a couple of parents tonight, and their reply was " I didn't know of such a meeting". Also, tonight the team and parents meet for a pregame meal. I was told that some parents where asking other parents what was going on, that they were suprised to hear of such a meeting with the Super in the newspaper. This has to be only a few parents, and not like the teams entire set of parents attending. I'm not to concerned about this, as I am the moral of the team right now.

Sounds like addition by subtraction may be the way to go... :sssh:

Never follow a legend. Follow the guy that follows the legend.

Reguardless of the number, such a meeting is not something you hear of often. I'm not jumping the gun, and I will say flat out I have no clue what was said in the meeting. I read the thread after the game, and it was clear what was on the minds of a portion of the Boyle fan base. It would be foolish to say that the things brought up on here were not the topic of discussion at some point IMO. I 100% understand the defense from those not involved, but this isn't a 500 piece puzzle as far as I can tell...

If it involved some of the issues that are surfacing in Henderson County such as verbal abuse, withholding water, etc., then I could see why a meeting like this would take place. If it's about the W-L total or about their son not playing as much as daddy would like, then it's bush league -- even for Boyle Co.

I am not from anywhere near Boyle Co. but I have to wonder, what is the problem? I mean let's see, Boyle Co. has an outstanding tradition! A tradition that most teams around the state would love to have. So what if you have a sub par year that doesn't mean that the program is at a lose. This team will be back and everyone knows that around the state. Every team that has tradition has a down year every so often. Boyle Co. will be fine and in the future they will continue what they started and that is winning state!

There's noway the Boyle teams of today and future can compete with the teams from 1999-2006. What those teams did was unbeliveable. Your right those days as we now know them are over. There was only one way to go and thats down, but down doesn't mean your out. Boyle may not be a contender this season, but they have the talent to be a big contender the next couple of years. This mess will get straighten out, it may be to late for this season, or maybe not. Only time will tell, but what ever happens I'll be at the games come rain or shine cheering the Rebels on.

Yes, this is exactly the right "bigger picture" attitude to have in this kind of situation.

There will be years in all programs when the chemistry of players/parents/coach/administration is poisonous for whatever reason. We had one of those last year in Prestonsburg, though Boyle Co. has the added problem of a legacy of recent multiple championships. The only real solution to that kind of problem is let the coach BE the coach (meaning, team decisions are HIS and his alone) and let the malcontents pass through (graduate). Hopefully, the core of Boyle Co. football will remain intact as it has here.

For those who are upset, ask yourself ONE simple question: "Would this issue be such a 'powder keg' if the Rebels were 5-1?" (and be honest with the answer)... :sssh:

This agitates me as a coach. Parents think they rule everything and due to politics they usually do. All it takes is parents complaining to get people in trouble. Go ahead and fire Coach Pardue, good luck finding someone with his experience, unless he wants to take a major pay cut Chuck ain't coming back.

There is no negative attitude in this household. Believe it or not, this is not talked about in our house. Our first thought has always been - what is best for the kids and I hope that from this time forward, that will also be the first thought from everyone. Life always give your hurdles to overcome and I pray that this is just a small hurdle that these kids and everyone involved can get over.

I hope that they guys can regroup and come out with a tough finish in the district and make a playoff birth. I hope that things get settled down and the parents realized that things happen for a reason. After the season is the time to evaluate and make the proper changes, if needed. Its sad to see such a dominate program struggle like this but correct me wrong someone, didn't Pikeville used to be a big time program and they went down a few years and now they are getting back on the right track?

I wish the parents would let the coaches coach - the players play and support 100%.

Head Coaches make $8,000 to $12,000 a year at most of the schools and some are much higher i'm sure but if you figure the average out a head coach probably averages about a nickle an hour if it is that much...

I can't let this comment go unanswered. Coaches, particularly assistants, do not earn high wages for their work, most are working for a love of the game and love of the players. But an increment of $8000 is about one dollar an hour if they work every hour of every day in the year. (8760 hours in a year)

You Boyle fans will be fine. If you want to pull up some old threads about turmoil, I'll dig up last year's threads about Nelson County, and we can all commiserate together . . .

It don't matter what school, the coaches are hired for a reason. I know we all see that there are people in the stands that think they can coach the game better at all levels... anyhow, we all are seeing the same viewpoint - let the coaches coach, the players play and the parents and students not playing football, and administration support each and every sports program within that school system and community.

Just a note... I have heard people on BGP say wait till the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th grades get up to varsity and mature.... they all lost this week with blowouts at Lex. Cath. (JV), and Danville (middle school). This might be a perpetual cycle, because i think this is a blatant indictment of the fact that talent can carry you only so far. Time for the coaches to start coaching like they did 3 years ago and players to start working like they did 3 years ago. Whether or not anyone likes it, BC is 1-5 and equal blame is to go around.

When my son first entered the game early in the first quarter against Danville last year, one of the senior defensive backs came up to him and told him he wasn't a sophmore or JV anymore, he was now "Varsity" and part of the "Team". The senior told him to do his job and that he would have his back. The heart displayed by this senior, which spilled over to my son, is the core reason last years team won 10 straight games and became one of the toughest defenses in the area.

I have tried to determine where this attitude begins. Is it something that the players naturally have? Is it something that is instilled in the players from the coaches? To me, it is a combination of both. It takes 11 kids with strength, skill, and plenty of "heart" to compete as champions, win or lose. In my opinion, the coaching staff can manage the strength and skill aspect of the game. But, keeping the "heart" full has to be one of the hardest skills for any coach to master.
