The Beechwood Authority saw this one coming.

I'm still amazed that some thought that Beechwood was the toughest team that the Colonels faced before the start of the game.

Left at half, hoping the Tigers would get out of this one alive. They ran into a buzzsaw tonight. Had no stats, but my observations for what they are worth:

 

1). A.J. Mayer had as fine a first half I have seen in 71 years of my life. Never pressured and on target with all but one pass early. Tall quarterback throwing to wide open receivers that all appeared bigger and faster than BW secondary. I would guess he had nearly 20 completions for 250 yards and 4 TDs. Interested to see if his actual stats match my impressions.

2). CovCath O and D lines overwhelmed BW at the line of scrimmage. BW fought every play but they were just overmatched.

3). CovCath is best team in NKy.

4). Only negative...Xpts didn't bounce off I-75 or the BW cafeteria. Surprised, as his kickoffs were rockets consistently inside 5 yard line. Had to stretch pretty far to find anything remotely a negative. Kind of like hitting your freethrows, but not swishing them.

5). BW is a very good 1A team. CovCath is an outstanding 5A team. Here's hoping they both bring home championship trophys.

I do not think SK's defense is even close to the dominance I saw from CovCath tonight. Give Shearer time and SK will put a bunch of points up against BW, also. But, I think BW will show much better offensive output against Pioneers.

Different kicker on kickoff versus extra points. They do clear the bar not by a lot
