Detroit as mentioned earlier and Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville.

 

I love Nashville, but went because the others in my group wanted to and they had some really interesting stuff.

Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. Thought for sure that I was in for an artist/hippy retreat city. Surprised the heck out of me. I really had a good time.

Washington D.C. I am not normally a bus tour/museum person. Went with my daughter's class years ago. Loved every minute! The WWII memorial had just opened, and there were several veterans there with their medals on. Brought me to tears which isn't easy. Loved the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier. Even the museums were great!

Montreal botanical gardens. Admission was included with our tickets for the Biodome. My wife and kids wanted to go there to see the insectarium that is located on the grounds of the gardens. I was reluctant. Surprisingly while I really did not care for the Biodome or the insectarium, the botanical gardens were really quite amazing. I very much enjoyed my time there.

I found that out. I thought I'd hate it since I hate crowds and, well....people. (:madman: ) Turned out I had a ton of fun. Went back again, plan to in the near future with the grand kids.

I have actually discussed this several times and never occurred to me to post a thread on here about it. Good one. I travel a lot for my job and attend a lot of conferences/trainings in smaller to mid size cities.

 

Mobile, AL. There for a conference. Never heard anything good about this area, and was expecting to step into an "armpit". Well, in my opinion, I was wrong. Some neat things to see, some cool architecture, and good food. I didn't mind it at all.

 

Tuscaloosa, AL. Again there for a conference. Wasn't expecting much but found the town pleasant. Stayed in an on campus hotel that had the Bear Bryant museum attached to it and right across the street from the baseball field, basketball arena and football practice field (tried to watch a football practice but got run off by security). Found some interesting places to go and good bbq. This was before the horrific tornado they had go through the area.

 

Seattle, WA. Conference again. I'm not a big city guy and not much attracts me to them at all. Don't care for Chicago, LA, San Francisco, or most any other big city I have been to. Oh sure there are things to see and do, but overall, don't care for them. With that said, Seattle just seemed different than any other big city I have been to. Just seems to have a laid back, cool vibe to it and the downtown area was pretty neat. Again good food and plenty to do.

 

Chattanooga, TN. Conference again. Really didn't know what to expect, but I found the place to be pretty neat, at least for a few days. Some of the run down areas of the town were also going thru a revitalization that was really helping to turn some thing around.

 

Kansas City, MO (back to back conferences there 2015 and 2016). Again wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. Had one of the best meals there I have ever had, anywhere. There is also some revitalization going on in some of the run down parts of the city with some new restaurants/bars. Stayed right next to the WWI museum. Didn't know that existed until I went to KC the first time. if you are a history buff or a military buff, this is an awesome place to see.

 

Manhattan, KS. Training class. This is just a cool little college town kind of in the middle of no where really. Was there for a few days (school had just let out) and I really enjoyed it. There are VERY few places I have gone and spent a few days and stated "I could move right now and live here", but I said that after my stay here. Now if college was in I might have felt differently, I don't know, but I just really liked the place.

 

Going to Little Rock, AR in a couple of weeks. I am hoping I can add it to this list, but I'm not holding my breath.
