Obviously, alot of emotions on the field..and off the field. Couple of observations and comments:

 

As I stated earlier in the week...Harmon is an absolute load. IMO, he's one of the best backs I've seen in the Mtns.....compares closely with BHS great Doug Howard. I knew Belfry would have problems with him..and they did.

 

IMO, for the biggest part of the game, P-ville controlled the LOS. Anytime you can consistently avg 4-5 yds on 1st down..you're definitely doing something right up front. That being said...despite the strength up front...Belfry is just simply a little better. Better depth and much better coaching.

 

Haywood did a marvelous job in keeping his team composed throughout the 4th qtr. At 20-17, all the momentum was with the Panthers. One defensive stop and the game's probably their's. But Haywood and the Pirates stayed calm and composed and methodically wore Pikeville down.

 

You can say all you want about penalties, yards gained by which team, crowd noise...yada yada yada. Those things don't mean a hill of beans if they don't equate to wins.

 

Regarding the scores....yes, Pikeville gave Belfry their 1st score..via the penalty. Belfry gave Pikeville a score on the long run by Honaker. Pikeville gave up one on the KO Return.....Belfry gave up one on the fumble inside the 15.

 

This game was just about as even as they get...until coaching and depth come into play. And just as the previous 5 games indicated...this one was no different. Belfry has better depth and better coaching.

 

Game over.

If this was the case, and the QB was getting hit while carrying out his fakes, then that is just good football by Pikeville. Anytime a QB looks like he may have the ball, he is fair game to the defense.

 

Like I said, I wasn't there, but if what you all are saying is true, the Pikeville players were just doing what they're supposed to do.

 

 

I know the difference between getting hit on the fakes and getting hit 5 sec after the ball is out of his hands.........they were looking to rattle the new Soph QB and it didn't happen, after the 1st quarter, it was getting a little dirty but hey......

The only thing that matters is that the end of the game last night, Belfry won and Pikeville lost...

 

 

Yes Belfry won....but this game showed that a team is capable of running ALL over them, and eventually the ball is going to bounce someone elses way. Yes I'd be happy with the win, but I'd be a little worried about my defense.

I agree about the defense. There is a need for improvement there...

Why belittle your own talent?? Pikeville is a fast improving team. Solid up front...with an All-State caliber talent in Harmon. If anything, Pikeville should feel good about their chances at the 1A level. Not many teams in 1A are going to have the depth that Belfry had.

The QB is live no matter when the ball leaves his hands during a run play as long as the whistle doesnt blow (or as we learned last night the player is down before the whistle blows). This is pefectly legal and the refs didnt call anything cause theyre was nothing to call. Im done with this thread. Congrats to Belfry and good luck see yall at Pond Creek next year, I cant wait. Could you guys do me a favor though(Im talking to Belfry). Could you guys lay a nice beatdown on Shelby Valley for me. Theyre gettin a little too cocky for theyre own good. I only wish they were on our schedule LOL!

OJW, Belfry isn't my team. But if they were, I would still be realistic. Yes they got the win on the road at Pikeville. But they still gave up nearly 300 yards rushing. I don't know any other stat from the game, but to rush for 300 yards and NOT win is almost unheard of. It sounds to me that Belfry was very fortunate to get the win.

This thread is about the Pikeville v Belfry game,isn't it.

I cannot believe this thread has been allowed,since last night, to become a bash fest....why not talk about the game, It was a great one.

 

This game has become an ugly affair, according to some posts, by some folks that I think saw a different game than I did.

 

IMO, Belfry fans should be more concerned about Pikeville's D-Linemen being in their backfield all night than about the QB getting hit.

AND IMO, Pikeville fans should be concerned about the lack of poise shown on the field, even when touted w/ verbal comments.

 

It was a great hard fought game.

 

BTW...I have the official game stats in front of me and there were NO unportsmanlike penalties, there were three dead ball personal fouls, two on Pikeville and one on Belfry.

First half Pikeville was in backfield alot but the pitch was working to the outside. Second half though we opened good holes and was running rather well just fumbled the ball alot.

Gish you know how Belfry is they get better every week. Belfry had the players rapped up in the backfield alot but couldnt tackle them. A large reason is they were hitting high and you cant do that with a real good back. Coach Haywood though seen that and I guarantee you they will work hard on that this week. I was told he said on the pregame interview that his defense wasnt were they needed to be yet but they are improving and with Coach Haywood its get better each week and things will work out for themself. But we defintley do have to tackle better and hold onto the ball to make a run. Which I think were capable of.

By the way with all the talk about low class and all that. I want to give a shout out to one player from Pikeville (one that stuck out to me) who played very classy and very well and that is #24. He is a heck of an athelete to be a sophmore and seems to have a level head on his shoulder and is a very classy kid it seems.

I would say Belfry better improve a great deal for the rest of the season, but I honestly don't feel we will see a team as good as the Panthers were FRIDAY until the 3rd round of the playoffs.

I wasn't going to post on this subject anymore, because everybody thinks their opinion is the only "right" one and everybody else saw and heard wrong. I dont care for people with that kind of attitude in real life so I'm not going to listen to it on the internet :lol: Let me inform a few people "you/we/I" are NEVER always right, no matter how much we want to believe that we are the only one who has any sense on here sorry.

Reminds me of those old P'burg/Belfry battles that you were an intregal part of in the years past! The ball didn't BOUNCE your way and will always live with those losses. Just adds a little more meaning to the game in 2 weeks at CAM Stadium.

 

Bad blood began in pre-game with #2 giving the Pirates the middle finger as they came off the field after warming up their kickers, etc. The Pirate players were focused at that point but that action took the intensity level up. Thanks again for the extra motivation 2 years in a row !!!

 

The white hat (Ref.) took to much verbal abuse before the one kickoff. The coach really made him look bad.
