Julian Tackett discusses future of Sweet 16s

I don't think all people do.

I understand that as well. But those of that do are just saying this is what we would like to see happen. Can you give me a con though to getting rid of the first round of playoffs in football and starting the basketball season a week earlier?

Nope, I am all for it.

How about getting rid of the bye week in football? I know most coaches that do not like it anyway, then that solves a week, you would not have to cut down on your playoffs?

That would work as well.

Do the coaches really not like the bye week? I hadnt heard that before.

No other sport gets a bye week, and the guys that I know that are head football guys don't care one way or the other to having it. Of course it has its benefits, getting healthy, preparation, etc. Just made sense to me in regards to solving the dilemma. I wonder if Florida/Ohio have off weeks in football? Maybe someone can get an answer to that

No other sport gets a bye week...

Yes and no. Basketball coaches don't play every single available date - that doesn't make it a mandated bye week per se, but it does serve a similar purpose.

Bye weeks would be good, if the state aligned and all schools had fall break the same week. Make it a bye week for everyone in the state.

FAll Break may be a thing of the past. If school start is bumped back like the legislature wants then Fall Break will probably be eliminated from a lot of schools.

The start of the season will stay the same.

the season will end a week earlier. No games lost. The limit will still be 30.

the boys state tournament will leap frog the girls state tournament and will be the last week of NCAA play.

The girls' state tournament will stay the same week. The week of NCAA conference tournaments

For example this year.

Districts would have started Feb. 13 instead of the 20th.

Regionals would have started Feb. 20th instead of the 27th.

Boys state would have been March 1-5 instead of 15-19

Girls state would have stayed the same, March 8-12.

I don't like it but I am not a casual fan and I really don't care about the NCAA tournament.

I am not sure how I feel about it. I am not a casual fan either but I do love the NCAA tournament as well.

Football does not have a bye week built into the schedule. Teams with bye weeks play during what is called week 0. In order to play week 0, teams must give up a pre-season scrimmage. Teams that play week 0 get 1 scrimmage, but get a bye week. Teams that play week 1 get 2 scrimmages and do not get a bye week.

The football season in Ohio begins and ends the same week as Kentucky. Ohio does not have an option to play week 0. In Ohio, basketball practice does not begin until November 4. Kentucky schools start basketball practice 3 weeks earlier than Ohio on October 15. The state Tournament in Ohio is not until March 23-March 25.

When the wifi worked I was able to watch any game I wanted to on my phone/iPad and @TheDeuce was watching games on his laptop. This issue doesn't affect folks like us though who will be at the Sweet 16 regardless so I get it. I just hate to have the season shortened or compromised just for the sake of accommodating the casual fan but they gotta get the money to pay the bills. I get it but I hate it.

AMEN!.........and adding to this, who cares about SEC tourney/UK basketball (says this UC fan). LOL

Thanks for the explanation

Completely off topic but why is football which play 9-10 games get 2 scrimmages the same as basketball/baseball/softball/ that play up to and over 30 games?
