The Best Coach You've Encountered In Your Life?

Featured Replies

If you had to pick one coach over all of them, who would it be and why?

Any sport, any position, assistant or head coach, grade school, middle school, high school college...could have been your coach personally or a family member's, or just a coach who just had some kind of impact on you.

Bob Lewis , Conner football. Learned a lot about accountability from him.

C. Wayne Perry. Easily had the biggest impact on my professional life. Besides being an incredible human being, he was the first coach that I met that trusted his ability to make smart hires. He would hire an assistant and let that assistant coach w/out interference. I always thought that that took a lot of guts and self-confidence.

Woody Robinson. A league baseball a long time ago in Ludlow. Taught me a lot about the game and to have confidence in my abilities. Great coach and an even better man.

Jerry Jones, my first Boys Club football coach in the 6th grade. We had the worst team, didn't win a game, but he was such a good man and I have always remembered him fondly. I went probably 25 years or so before I ran into him again. I was home visiting my dad as he had just had some major surgery. I saw Jerry in a local bakery and was able to talk with him a few minutes. He was on up in age and I'm not real sure he remembered who I was, but that was ok. Sadly it wasn't long after that I heard he passed away.

My dad was my coach in grade school bball. He taught us hard work and discipline. I had numerous other coaches. I'd like to say my highschool football coach taught us life lessons, etc. but as it is he'd be the last on the list. He was just there so to speak.

Great dude

I have two men that taught me a lot that were a huge influence in my life ... Larry Allison was one .. he taught me to believe in my abilities and to respect the game of baseball .. he always knew how to challenge you to get it out of you ... he even took the time to restring my son's glove before last season ... . Coach Billy Keene Anderson was the other ... he coached me in baseball and basketball ... the man was still throwing batting practice every day until he was probly 60 ... also helped him in his tobacco and cattle after school alot ... but two great men in my life that I have a lot of memories with and enjoy the heck out of getting to talk to them when I see them ... utmost respect for both

I know this is hard to believe but none really stood out. I had lots of good ones, but no one that influenced me more than another. I had a teacher that did in the 6th grade, though.

Harlan Strong for Football, Dan Shea for Baseball, and Holmes great Michael Moore in basketball for the NKCC.

Mike Bankemper at Campbell County. Uncanny ability to get more out of less than anyone I ever met. I still to this day believe his influence changed my life direction.

If DLG's were able to post, I know who they would say. :lol2:

Denny Barnes did have quite an impact on them.

I grew up with his lovely wife. Looks like he could still get after it on the mat.
