Exactly, I thought the same thing. CCH resorted to being a jump shooting team. Hearing about CJ's concussion helps to explain why he wasn't driving to the basket in the 2nd half. Once I saw the Cooper player drive past the CCH guards for a layup in the 2nd half it reminded me of NewCath last year and I thought, uh oh. Great game to watch. Congrats Cooper.

Offense was a problem for CCH. A lot of that had to do with a very good Cooper defense.

 

In my opinion CCH should have used Walter more all year. Probably the only team in the state that has a seven footer and don't use him.

 

Another thing, CCH is very deep, however a lot of the players don't get a chance. Some will never get a chance. Most games all year CJ, CVH, and Ruthsatz played 30-32 minutes every game (when they are not injured). Regardless if they were up five points or fifty points. Most of the fourth position minutes were played by AJ which even shortened the minutes available for other kids to play. That left one position to rotate about four other players through including Walters.

 

CCH is very good and has very good players in CVH, CJ, and Ruthsatz, but they have off nights. And when they have off nights, or make mistakes then they need to give some other kids some opportunities. When you have kids play 30-32 minutes and sometimes the stats show very few points, very few rebounds, some turnovers, etc, you can't tell me there is not another player down that bench that could give you more if they played that many minutes. Some of the kids on the bench would start at several different high schools.

 

All in all, CCH has had a good year and will be the team to beat next year. They return just about everyone besides Cole. It will probably come back down to Cooper vs CCH.

CCH has an extremely good coach as his record in the 6 years speaks for itself. They also have a very good team as they have had a huge amount of success over the last 6 years as well. How about just admitting and accepting the fact that it wasn't their night and they ran up against a team that is pretty darn good and probably more athletic in their 1-6 players.

Blaming the coach or criticizing a very young and still developing big man is not going to solve anything. There isn't a team in the state that wouldn't kill to have had 25% of the success CCH has had over Coach Ruthsatz's tenure.

The Jags are extremely good and it's Cooper's time as they have endured several heartbreaking losses in their short 9 year existence as well but have just went back to work which I'm sure CCH will do as well.

Everyone should stop saying Walters needs to touch the ball everytime down the court. If you saw the game, he received plenty of touches. He scored 5 points in the first few minutes of the game and nothing after that. He either missed contested shots or immediately passed the ball out of the post. But there was no question he received numerous touches.

Considering the number of points resulting from those touches, you might ask if he received too many touches in this game. I am not debating that, just point out that lack of touches for Walter was not the issue last night.

 

I agree with your comments, and that he received plenty of touches, I think it was well above the amount he normally gets in a game. To me, the question is what came out of those touches. As mentioned, he had some success in attacking the basket early in the game, as the game wore on this was not the case. There were several times he received the entry pass within 5 feet of the basket, only to immediately turn and pass out to the perimeter, he was not looking for a shot. Whether this was by design, or his own doing, it was something the coaches did not feel a need to change. I'm not sure why they didn't but I definitely don't feel this is something you can put on Walter.

Yes. 1-3-1 was the only zone Coach sporadically used during the course of the season. As most people know he has a 99% man-to-man philosophy but in last nights case he chose to insert the zone. His plan was not to play it long term but found out it was working very well so he rolled with it and it paid off as his players excuted perfectly. Excellent adjustment as Cooper was struggling a bit keeping CCH off the glass and shutting down driving lanes and it worked.

Congratulations to Cooper on a hard fought victory. They were clearly the better team last night. I was impressed with how hard the Jags played and they hit the big shots while CCH came up short.

 

I know it's the first regional championship for Cooper, and I noticed many Cooper fans with tears in their eyes as the players & coaches celebrated. Enjoy the ride, and bring the championship back home to the 9th region. This CCH fan will be pulling for you.

Amazed at how many posters are ripping on a kid who is just starting to grow into his body. Also amazes me how a coach who has taken his kids to 5 straight regional finals has been blasted. I'm sure everyone who does so is the best employee at their job. Grow up.
