February 27, 20179 yr I can't believe more people aren't talking about the utter arrogance and ignorance displayed in Viola Davis' speech. Really, actors are the only profession that celebrate what it means to live life? What about military, police, doctors, other health care professionals, any number of professions where people literally save lives?
February 27, 20179 yr How could this possibly lead to ratings? I agree that it couldn't have been a ploy for more ratings. 3/4 of the east coast was already asleep by the time that happened.

February 27, 20179 yr So they make envelopes with the wrong winner on it? You really don't have a clue how it works, do you? :lol2:
February 27, 20179 yr Beatty said afterward that what his envelope said was "Emma Stone La La Land". It was a best actress envelope, not a best picture envelope. I follow you now.
February 27, 20179 yr You really don't have a clue how it works, do you? :lol2: On the news this morning they kept talking about how they have two envelops. Why would you have two envelops when there is only one winner. Now what Getslow posted makes sense if the dude picked up the wrong one. (how someone running the show doesn't make sure they have the right envelope is a different story.)
February 27, 20179 yr They reported on the Today Show this morning that Emma Stone, who had just won for Best Actress, had her envelope placed in the wrong spot by the person that had brought it out and when the Best Picture envelope was brought out on the stage the guy had picked up Stone's envelope instead of the one for Best Picture. If that had happened for the Best Documentary it wouldn't have been such a big deal. But for it to occur during the big finale of the night, the biggest award to be presented, was unreal. And I thought Kimmel was the best host they've had in a while, except for the political stuff which gets a little tiresome from presenters and recipients at all the award ceremonies. I think most of Hollywood feels they have to toe the line with the liberal thinking, even if they disagree, or they'll be blacklisted from the industry. I'm not sure if Kimmel falls into that category (most likely not) but I'm sure there are many in acting and music work that stay quite with their political beliefs for fear of reprisals.
February 27, 20179 yr I read a different explanation about the envelope for Best Picture. There are two sets of envelopes, with a briefcase holding each set of envelopes on each side of the stage. The representative from Price Waterhouse handed the wrong envelope to Warren Beatty as he went out on stage. Since political shots happen at the Oscars, I think we should call the various explanations about the wrong envelope fake news. Any media outlet that put out an incorrect explanation are LIARS!

Agree, that was a really really stupid comment...and the audience knew it too.
February 28, 20179 yr Looks like Hidden Figures got blanked. The only nominated movie we saw this season.
February 28, 20179 yr When movie awards turn to Trump bashing, then the overpaid fools got channel turned on them. One of lowest rated Oscars to be watched.
February 28, 20179 yr I would rather shovel manure or pick up dog poop in the yard than watch one of these award shows. It is time I can never get back. The opinions of the actors (and comedians) don't matter to me one iota. I am a movie fan, and we watch plenty of them...thank you Redbox...but the less I know about the actors, the better I enjoy the movies. And BTW, two of the critically acclaimed Oscar winning movies we saw were The Piano and Cold Mountain and were two of the most depressing movies we have ever seen.

Agree, that was a really really stupid comment...and the audience knew it too. Maybe I misheard it but what I thought she said was "what it means to live a life". That being the case, I get what she was going for but it still wasn't a very good line. Keep it simple.
