Rio Olympic venues...remember the Olympics were held just 6 months ago

Featured Replies

This is why you never have the Olympics in Brazil. Duh.

You want to protest something? Protest your city wasting Millions on the Olympics. Disgusting. Political greed and corruption at it's finest.

I've said it before, but it's because of this that I think the time for the Olympics has passed. I quite enjoy watching them, but they are a tremendous drain on the countries that stage them, because of the ridiculous commitment it takes to build the venues. If they wanted to continue, it would be better if they had a rotation of countries and re-used venues. But everyone always wants it to look shiny and new.

Hard to understand an un-used soccer stadium in Brazil.

Fight between the owners and the Brazilian Olympic Committee. Operating group says Olympic Committee turned the venue back over to them in a condition unsuitable for use.

The stadium is so massive that no professional team uses it and unlike England's Wembley or the Stade St. Denis in Paris, it's use as a national stadium isn't regular enough to keep it afloat with the operating squabbles.

Hold them in Athens.

I love the Olympics but this is why we're only seeing them in countries where the rule of law can be easily overcome. They bulldozed numerous neighborhoods and cashed in countless shady deals with developers and builders to put this thing together with absolutely no long-term vision.

It's why cities like Chicago and Boston have had massive popular movements to stop local governments from even attempting to make Olympic bids in recent years. It's a scam and they know it.

You would think the economic impact of hiring people to build these venues, the money from the Olympians and visitors would be enough to make this a positive event, even if the money included leveling the eyesores when it was over.

IT really is unbelievable they can't find uses for some of these places.

It's not just Brazil, this just happened much sooner but not unexpected. Sochi is a ghostown, Athens is a mess along with countless other sites. It disgusts me to see how these corrupt leaders sell out their own to the IOC.

The pool doesn't look much worse than it did last Summer. I wonder how many swimmers came down with something after the games.

Here's what they should do...have the Olympics on the United States every 4 years. Use the same venues, including the ones we already have. Build what we need and find other uses for those sites between years.
