Kentucky 92 LSU 85

He's so brutal in the half court. Really bogs down that entire offense.

Because he can't do anything other than power into the middle or baseline. He won't/can't shoot. Makes it hard to space the floor.

I thought he played pretty well last night when he was in the middle of the zone, near the high post. Not driving there, but essentially busting the middle of that zone and then driving to the basket or kicking for good looks.

It's not laziness. They try, but they are just out of position, don't slider their feet and have no clue how to rotate and play help defense.

Their help defense is awful.

Kentucky has made up for poor positioning by having a freak of nature that could block or alter shots (e.g. Davis, Noel, WCS and even Towns to an extent). They don't really have that guy with shot blocking ability, or should I say instincts. Means they need to be prepared to slide into help position even sooner/better.

And would you say then that Calipari is somewhat to blame? It's his responsibility to have them prepared and teach how he wants the game played.

Absolutely. But it's about the process and it always has been with Calipari at Kentucky. He doesn't need to have them fully ready by the first week of February. They need to be fully ready by March. More often than not, he's got them where he needs/wants them to be by then.

Why is S. Jones not playing is a concern to me, a highly regarded player in high school, does not get much time. If he is not better than what we are seeing from 4 spot, then a lot of coaches and recruiting services missed badly. I think Marcus Lee was pushed out the door for this kid? Do you guys think Lee would of had helped us?

I just feel he's a little loose with the reins on the kids and he takes easy ways out at times. However, if you are or aren't a Calipari supporter, it's hard to knock his success.

I don't disagree with you. I am hoping the practice today reigned them in quite a bit.

He's better at it than Fox....:idunno:

I just don't buy that a guard that can get to the basket pretty much at will is somehow bogging down the offense.

Cal refers to a player who dribbles to much or doesn't pass quickly enough as a ball stopper. Briscoe's first instinct is to dribble the basketball, this makes him very predictable. Teams are giving him the baseline and challenging the layup attempt. He's ok until he is challenged by rim protectors. Lack of the threat of a

pull-up jumper or floater really limits Briscoe.

Gabriel with a great all around game, especially the first half.

I'm not sure I would say all around. Watch a replay and notice how many times his man drained threes with Gabrielle no where nearby to defend the shooter. His offense with the only thing that kept him in the game because His defense is still lacking badly.

Is it too early in the season for the frosh to have hit the "freshman wall"?

Or does such a thing exist in these AAU days?

I feel like Calipari let's his young teams play their way early on. Then eventually let them learn the hard way, and then starts teaching them how to play how he wants. It may not be a strategy used by most. However people can't argue that he does have his team's playing their best come tournament time.

So Cal did 3 hours of D today and ran them till they almost threw up he said. He said anyone could quit if they wanted. Extreme measures by Cal but when some of the the team doesn't care, why should he?

Hopefully it woke a few of them up.

Don't put me in the camp that believes they don't care.
