Do You Agree With President Trump's Stance On Illegal Immigration?

Featured Replies

Should we or should we not crack down on illegal aliens in this country? If your answer is we should not, then what is wrong with this statement from the President?

"All Americans, not only in the states most heavily affected, but in every place in this country, are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country. The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. The public service they use impose burdens on our taxpayers. That's why our administration will move aggressively to secure our borders more by hiring a record number of new border guards, by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before, by cracking down on illegal hiring, by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens. In the budget I will present to you we will try to do more to speed the deportation of illegal aliens who are arrested for crimes, to better identify illegal aliens in the workplace as recommended by the commission. We are a nation of immigrants. But we are also a nation of laws. It is wrong and ultimately self-defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws we have seen in recent years, and we must do more to stop it. "

The plan should include a plan to become a citizen. Put a timeline on it, give them the opportunities to be a productive citizen.

Punish severely employers who employ these immigrants that are not under the plan. There is the main problem. If there was no work they wouldn't be here. It won't stop until this is done. They can't build a wall high enough, deep enough to keep them out. The average daily salary is $1.75 daily in Mexico. Again the reward s much greater than the risk.

The main problem is not immigrants it is employers.

1.75, what is cost of living though.

A 1.75 of US dollars is worth 37.32 dollars in Mexico.

A dollar is worth 21.32 in Mexico.

I can see why they send their money back.

Still don't make it right though.

I'm for getting rid of MS13 members and all convicts and criminals.

The question is not whether illegal immigration is a problem.

The question is where should it be on the list of priorities?

As for the "they're taking our jobs" cry they're taking our jobs that no one else seems to want. They're also paying taxes so it's not like they're living scot-free on the US dime.

It's low on the list for me.

I think the biggest challenge is believing that plenty of manufacturing jobs for unskilled labor are going to come back. Some will but they will be low-paying. You can't be unskilled AND expect a job like our grandfathers had in the 50s/60s before automation.

I struggle to be sympathetic to those that blame others for their lack of education/lack of training/lack of ambition/lack of initiative. It puts us in a bind as we can't just leave them on the side of the road nor punish their children.

Immigrants could teach us a few lessons.

I suppose I'm ignorant on what illegal immigrants actually make/pay.

Reports have their taxes in the billions. That's sales tax, income tax, and property taxes.

It's tough. I understand both sides of this issue.

Reports have their taxes in the billions. That's sales tax, income tax, and property taxes.

How do they pay income taxes if they have no Social Security number? I'm not being smart, I seriously don't know. Unless they or their employer are using fictitious IDs, I don't see them paying income taxes.

I'm sure a few pay property taxes, but again it's hard to imagine being able to get a mortgage without being in the country legally. Government may be lax, but banks are notoriously not lax in verifying who they are loaning to. Some may pay property taxes, but I'd say it's a miniscule amount compared to what is collected.

Sales tax is by far the number one place we get money back from illegal immigrants. I'd guess that's where the bulk of the Billions paid comes from.

If the first step is to focus on deporting criminals (which is what just heard on TV was the plan) I have no issue with them bring deported.

I also support a path to stay for those that are fitting in and being productive citizens, as long g as they have no other criminal issues.

This is in part due to the out of control welfare system in our country where it pays someone to sit around instead of assisting those who work.

Many are paid cash so there goes the paying taxes argument.
