For me, I make it a point to learn about sports that I don't understand. I played football up through high school but always had my mind boggled by rugby, and then once I made it a point to learn about rugby, lo and behold I started playing on a club team in college.

 

I learned about cricket, and I came to love it. Same with short-track cycling.

 

I guess I would say that I certainly don't understand the fascination with hockey.

 

Figure skating and gymnastics, though, those are judged athletic events. Not sports. I don't like those two.

 

Hockey is great. Think of it as soccer on ice with much tougher people playing the game.

 

And like others said, hockey is fantastic live.

I still recall when I was a seventh-grader and they were considering introducing new sports to our hillbilly HS. We went through a stretch where we tried out field hockey, but that didn't work because the instinct to drill people with the sticks was too much. Tried soccer too, but it got ugly with how dirty it got played.

 

Tried wrestling too, and even had an ex-college wrestler willing to head it up, but it didn't take long before one of the lightweight matches found one of the kids hoisting the other up in a full body press, holding him high above his head for what became inevitable. We all cheered for a proper body slam, but the coach was like "NO, NO, THAT'S ILLEGAL!" You can guess what happened next. They still don't have 'rasslin at my old HS.

 

I probably would've won the HW division in our tourney that year, but I threw my SF match because the guy I would've had to face in the finals had some horrible BO, and I wanted no part of that.

Soccer , Hockey . At least hockey looks fun and exciting , I just dont understand the rules . Icing , Off sides , I just dont get it . Now Soccer , I wish we could outlaw it , totally hate it .

Cricket and its not even close. I don't even understand the concept. Also I don't understand why only women play field hockey. Curling :idunno. Hockey is AWFUL to watch on TV but a lot of fun in person, I still have no idea whats going on though. Also almost any sport that is "judged" i.e. diving, gymnastics, etc. I have no idea what they are looking for, what its called, basically anything about them, but I do enjoy watching them.

I may learn to like cricket.

You and I have way to much fun on here. Awhile back, I laughed so hard during one of our back and forths that my chest was hurting afterwards. You know how to enjoy a good laugh. Really good sense of humor.

I wish someone knew cricket well enough to give me a condensed version of what's going on and what's trying to be accomplished. It seems so bizarre that I'm curious to know more.
