January 3, 20179 yr If you watched the Oklahoma/Auburn game you had to cringe like I did when Brent Musberger spoke out in support of Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon. This guy is a complete buffoon, who in their right mind would say something like that and then double down later angrily in retaliation to the negtive tweets he was getting. ESPN needs to act on this IMO or they will continue to see their ratings drop. Brent Musburger poorly handles discussion about Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon
January 3, 20179 yr So, I watched it half heartedly, if he said what the article said, what's the problem?
January 3, 20179 yr Why is it so aweful? He owned what he said. I was a hot head young man once. He made a horrible decision, and was punished. If he was a perpetual woman beater then yes it'd be wrong to defend him. He is by all accounts a fine person who messed up.

If he was a perpetual woman beater then yes it'd be wrong to defend him. He is by all accounts a fine person who messed up. It is so awful because: 1) Mixon hit a woman 2) Mixon and OK thought it would blow over with a suspension 3) The actual video came out (Ray Rice) 4) Musberger wished the guy a solid NFL career. Why, hasn't he shown his character and why should he profit from that? 5) Glamorizing an individual who smacks around women has no place in society and Musberger perpetuated the problem by endorsing this guy. And guess what, sometimes humans make grave mistakes that lead to consequences for the duration of their lives, irrespective of whether or not they were punished. Why should a top tier athlete get a pass on that ?
January 3, 20179 yr He is by all accounts a fine person who messed up. Domestic violence has always been bad; however, I think the fact that it is taken much more serious by professional teams is a good (dare I say great) thing. Hitting women is never OK and you are never a "fine" person, who just made a mistake if you do it. Mixon broke four facial bones of the woman and left her in a pool of blood and motionless on the floor. His punishment was a red shirt (keep the scholarship and lets try this again next year). If you are getting physical with a woman, it is quite OK with me if you never play football again. The young man can have a second chance at life, he can have, a second chance at relationships, but if he looses his opportunity to play football - tough - try being a better human being. Musburger can have his opinion, which is pretty much the "old school" (ironic given who is articulating it) view of domestic assault, but he is majorly out of touch with how domestic assault is being viewed. That view is not a PC thing - it is a putting sports in the appropriate perspective.

Someone with a unique ability about them has an advantage others do not have. Stop the presses.
January 3, 20179 yr So what is your suggestion? Cast Mixon to the wolves? Don't allow him to rebound in life and become a contributing member to society? Someone with a unique ability about them has an advantage others do not have. Stop the presses. It's not being "cast to the wolves", he is the wolf.... He has every opportunity to become a contributing member to society, it just doesn't require football being a part of that. He got to stay at school, so he can get an education, then he can get a job and contribute like everyone else. Heck he doesn't even have a felony conviction for this and I'm quite sure it rises to the level of felonious assault. His unique ability to play football has nothing to do with his character as a person. Maybe the answer would have been so send him to the Marine Corp for a couple years and see exactly how tough a guy he is...but we already know that...he beats women...he's a dirtbag.

A fine person doesn't punch a woman in the face breaking it in 4 places. And no, he wasn't punished, he was given a red shirt by OU and slap on the wrist by the courts. So what exactly has Joe Mixon done to prove he is a fine person? Not assaulted anymore women? Maybe it was his 2015 tweet dedicating his season to his haters.
January 3, 20179 yr I'm just curious why the women are never at fault for anything? In no way, shape or form do I condone what Mixon did, but in some cases, not all, the woman can be physical (hitting, kicking, etc) and it's completely ok. When can they be held accountable also?
January 3, 20179 yr If there would have been video of the two incidents would Musberger have needed to request for Dede Westbrook to be given a third chance?

Seeing the video of this specific incident, do you believe what she did warranted what Mixon did? What about what Ray Rice did?
January 3, 20179 yr This guy hit a woman once. He's not a perpetual woman beater. What else is on his rap sheet? The video is horrible, I don't know if he spent anytimein jail or not. He should've if he didn't. That said, if you were in his shoes do you think you should lose your job for one incident? If you messed up would you say to your boss "I completely agree that I shouldn't get a second chance, and I can see where you are coming from with your choice to terminate me".

We know he is a dirt bag, or at least had a dirt bag moment. I just don't understand why he is disallowed to utilize his own skill set to earn a living here forward? My guess is he is much more apt to make a positive impact doing something with that career than another. Limiting opportunity gives more of a chance for Mixon, or other like him, to become a societal problem.

Once a woman beater, always a woman beater. He's a despicable human being.
