They are like the NFL, looking to lose their audience.

^ And that is actually a valid postulation.

Are the folks that spend money to watch the NBA - and specifically the Warriors and Pistons - less likely to do so now? Are ratings going to fall? Are sponsors going to be lost?

When does the NBA even start playing regular season?

They are like the NFL, looking to lose their audience.

I know it's popular to assume the NFL is losing audience because of Kaepernick and the Anthem flap. But because the two events occurred together, does not mean the two events are related. I give you the example of NASCAR. Once the fastest growing, highest attended sport in the country. And as American as you can get. And it's audience has been disappearing rapidly over the last 5 years. They've had no scandals, and it's core audience is very blue collar and patriotic. Why are they struggling??

You've got to remember, Trump openly said some things that were very offensive to minorities...whether you agree with whether they were offensive or not. And the NBA is made up of primarily minorities and another group the Donald called out, foreigners. Just because you don't see or feel their concerns, that doesn't mean they don't or shouldn't exist, and aren't valid.

Valid concern. I have no data, however, I would guess the electorate that watches the NFL leans more Republican while those that watch the NBA leans more Democrat. I'm not sure the audience drop (which isn't as high to start with) would be quite as noticeable.

Are their concerns valid? Are there locker room issues that they need to address?

Detroit Pistons' Stan Van Gundy goes off on Trump: 'Brazenly racist'

I look at this as the coaches just trying to back what their players are thinking and saying...having their backs which you can argue they need to do. Van Gundy was way over the top IMO...

NBA is a players league. The coaches are backing their guys. The vast majority of the locker room is African American. I'm sure there is some concerns with Trump among them.

We're here to watch a basketball game, not hear your political views....just like going to a concert and having to hear the performers views, that's not what folks are paying their money for. Just shut up already.

Because it's extremely boring? :idunno:

Good point. And I think with the proliferation of bad NFL games on TV, the answer to why the NFL is down might be what you just said and has nothing to with the anthem issue.
