That map doesn't tell the whole story. Even though the areas shaded in blue are small in terms of the space they take up, in terms of population, they represent roughly 50% of the country, and include nearly every major city. In reality that map isn't showing that a far greater number of people support and vote Republican. What it really shows is that voting lines are almost squarely drawn between urban and rural areas. While you can say a lot wanted it, since Clinton won (or will likely win) the popular vote, it appears more wanted Clinton.

 

But there is that pesky thing called the electoral college.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Donald Trump is like a white version of Louis Farakhan. In this campaign he has managed to show racism, misogyny, xenophobia, anti-Semitism and fear mongering. So yeah, it's pretty wild that his victory represents dissatisfaction with the system.

Duke had zero impact on this election as far as getting anyone elected. A lot of "Deplorable People" voted for Obama and Bill Clinton in the past, did their feelings and hopes of domination determine the either President's agenda?

 

I agree but that isn't the point. The point is do the factions that are hate groups believe they got him elected and their ways and mindsets will now be condoned. That is the concern. We are not talking about Obama and BC, we are talking about this election.

 

If Trump does not give them an audience or voice, then that will go a long way to tempering them. I am just not sure he will. I truly hope so.

I'm well aware of that. And my post wasn't meant to debate the electoral college vs popular vote. My point was while the map visually makes it look like the US is overwhelmingly Republican, that's not the case. Though much smaller in area, the blue shaded parts make up over 50% of the population. Like it or not, Republican voters are in the minority.

 

And imagine the narrative if Trump had won the popular vote and lost the election.

This came from a 19 year old teammate of my sons and couldn't have said it better. I only hope those on the left understand this.

Republicans have been the minority for decades, that's not news. Doesn't bother me, I'm not a Republican. In the 70's I thought line item veto and doing away with the Electoral College were good ideas. Thank God I did not have a vote on them, then. And if Trump's numbers were reversed, then I would be happy the election was finally over. As it is I am also happy the guy I've been campaigning for, for the last year and a half was the winner.

Yep gotta bring Obama in it. Bottom line he gave them no credence or lip service and not an audience. If Trump does that then fine. I believe most of us believe good people voted for Trump that truly want things changed. They or you got their wish. The tell for me is how will Trump handle them. Congratulations!

 

Just because some or many disagree or liked Obama does not men they liked the antics of the Black Panthers or Louis or Al or any of the extremists. Nor does it mean the DNC supports that anymore than the GOP supports Duke and his gentlemen.
