Foreigners have found Morgan County to be an attractive spot for years, why not Paintsville? Maybe he's a country music fan and loves the history of Rt 23.

Somerset had a Foreign Exchange kid this season that played soccer. Someone complained and he was ruled ineligible. I'm sure if he hadn't been any good he would have played, but the kid was really good...so he had to sit.

Johnson Central gets somewhere around 8-10 foreign exchange students each year. On average only 1 or 2 play sports and when they do its usually soccer (then football kicker) or swimming. Leon Moshefy walked through the door as assigned and placed by the foreign exchange commission like the other 8-10 do each year. This one just happened to be 7'0'' with a work ethic and basketball ability. Johnson Central has never had a foreign exchange student play basketball in their history either.

 

The kid has a major D1 body, is very athletic, but is also very raw and unpolished. If Tommy McKenzie can develop him, watch out!

I like him already! If speaking 6 languages doesn't tell you he's intelligent, staying away from facebook/twitter/etc speaks volumes for a 16 year old kid.

 

As far as people having a problem with foreign exchange students being allowed to play sports, that's weak sauce. The kids are here for an educational and cultural experience, playing sports happens to be part of the cultural experience. Let the kids play whatever sport they have an interest in and let them experience the American version of the sport. In the grand scheme of things, none of those kids are here just to play sports.

While I do agree for the most part he has admitted he is here to play basketball. And for the record I don't think there is anything wrong with that at all.

International Foreign Exchange students have to go through basically the same transfer process as anyone else, but the paperwork that they have to provide has to show that they were processed through an approved agency, have a the proper Visa, as well as be able to show who paid the tuition & fees (including travel) that were required to enter the program as well as other general questions such as is the host family a member of a coaching staff, etc....

 

I only processed a few of these during my time as AD, and unless you had your ducks in a row (especially for a fall sport) it was quite difficult to get them eligible when it would be beneficial for them or the team.
