How fond is your memory of tonight's game?

 

 

Great game but it still does not change any of my fond memories that come out of the hank.

It's always nice to go home and celebrate a victory before getting on the computer. Isn't that right GIAT? :sssh: :lol: :lol:

I went back to the "prediction" thread earlier this evening, and I have to say that you were one of those that was cautioning Russell not to overlook Ashland, and that the game was no "lock" for a win.

 

Good to see you keeping it in perspective, and I wish your Devils the best of luck the rest of the way.

I may be little too blunt for some people but at least I try to look at things honestly.

 

Russell has alot of work to do. Ashland had been battle tested in two tough games and Russell had only one tuneup in a blowout against Greenup. That showed tonight. Ashland, even when down looked like they still had plenty of fight left in them and knew what to do. Russell on the other hand, when things got close late looked confused. They played hard but looked way to one demensional.

 

Also Russell looked tired in the second half. Again big game experience played a big part. Ashland had the two tough games to get their legs under them. Russell on the other hand still looked like they were not in game shape. IMO this was a good experience for both teams.

I would guess that this will make Raceland the Number one team on the super seven pole.

 

I would say that will go to Johnson Central.

According to Dicky Martin, Walters went down with an injury late in the game - any word on how he's doing, or what the injury was?

Seemed fine after the game. He was hurt in the first or second OT, and played in the 3rd OT.

Your most certainly right FBall, but that doesn't change my analysis. My point was this: before this game, many Belfry fans, including myself were worried about Russell. Now, I know this will be a game of heart and desire.

 

The Pirates have a long way to go, but I honestly believe they are could have beat Ashland, as could have Russell. We both barely missed out. The difference IMO, is Russell lost the LOS, and Belfry won it.

 

Its going to be an AWESOME game in Nov!

Well, I still think you should be worried about Russell. But, Russell should also be worried about Belfry. And Middlesboro and Sheldon Clark and Mercer Co. and whoever else may lay on down the line.

 

Russell did lose the battle on the line of scrimmage but it wasn't just because Ashland was stronger. Ashland shot the gaps and stunted along the defensive front and Russell never did really adjust to it. They took the traps away and Russell became way to one dimensional.

 

On defense Russell wasn't really blown off the ball. They were kept off balance though. Ashland killed them all night with the counter to Thomas. It was more of a failure to stay at home and play your assignments.

 

This was Russell's first test of the season and with a coach like Ivan, I am sure they will learn alot from it.

Great game tonight. Very impressed by Matt Thomas and the Ashland offensive line. We all knew that Matt was capable of performing like he did tonight. Mahan played well but he needs to cut down on the fumbles. This was a hard fought game both ways. Looks like Raceland and Johnson Central will battle for the #1 spot in the super seven.

Great game. The best team won. Ashland is not the same team that I saw play two weeks ago. Congratulations on a great win. Now win the championship.

Great game at Putnam in my opinion the second best place to watch a ballgame! Anyway both teams missed golden opportunities to win the game! GIAT you were right when you told me it would come down to a big break! It came down to several big breaks for both teams! Neither team deserved to lose and Ashland is a different team from week #1. Anyway good luck to both the Tomcats and the Devils the rest of the season. And also after the game that Matt Thomas had and Kasey Clark had for their teams it would be great if they became teammates since a certain Big East team ranked in the top ten in the country entered Putnam dump I mean stadium in the second half! Sorry I had to get that cheap shot in!!!!!

I can live with that analysis Fball. If you were there, and Russell wasn't "beat" on the line, but simply beat according to scheme, I will take your word for it.

 

I do know this. Belfry plays one kid who is 250 on the o-line and 4 who are between 210-225. Russell has a HUGE size advantage.

 

I know I'm probably overstating the game tonight, but I did listen, and Ashland WON the LOS. Against Belfry, they did not!

That was some game I hated to see either one lose! Congrats to my CATS for hanging in there an beating a really good Russell team, Im sure they will still be playing when the leaves have fallen!!! I didnt really make a call either way on this game but I knew Ashland had a chance, I owe Mr. Matt Thomas a huge apology I didn't think he had it in him to run between the tackles like that!!!! :ylsuper: He really turned the corner tonight keep it up Matt I'll not doubt you again, good job to all the TOMCATS:dancingpa

Belfry a slight edge up front, Russell a slight edge in skill. Kasey Clark v. #20 Dustin May, a battle to the end..

Just remeber the Super Seven means very little don't get caught up in it your teams performance in the ADI. your team will be judged ultimately by the end of the year performance remember the GREAT Johnson Central team that lost in round 1 of the playoffs or the Boyd Co. tem that beat Russell the defending 2A STATE CHAMPIONS and the Lions failed to make the playoffs. Just focus on the next 13 wekks of the H.S. season and you will be just fine M.V.P. 07!!!

Russell did lose the battle on the line of scrimmage. There was no doubt about it. But it was more due to play calling and misdirection than just blowing a team off the ball. I thought Ashland's play calling was brilliant tonight. They had Russell guessing on every play.

 

On the other side of it, Everybody in the stadium new exactly where the ball was going when Russell had the ball.

 

I hope Russell and Belfry do get to meet again this year. It should be a great game. Again.:thumb:
