Ashland 24 Russell 21 (3 OT)

Okay. I get it now. Blunt is okay - since you're "blunt". Sarcastic is bad, since I'm sarcastic.

Then let me take this opportunity to be blunt. I don't really care if you appreciate the sarcasm. If Devilologist makes wild predictions, he needs to be prepared to be called on them. Sometimes, that "call" will be phrased as sarcasm.

How was that for blunt?

Frances

Wow. Kind of sensitive aren't we. It appears the sarcatic one is the one that didn't appreciate the sarcasm in return. I really thought you could take it better than that.

So much for being blunt.

This was a great game to watch. There were many errors and both teams have a lot of room for improvement. I think the newspaper had Ashland with 7 fumbles (loosing 3 of them) and 2 interceptions. In most football games 5 turnovers would be hard to overcome. But, these Tomcats never quit.

• I was impressed with the play of the linemen – I think that they are starting to mature and jell. I’m very proud of you guys.

• Tyler Slone is playing very well - he’s a former Ashland Jet (JFL), so I should expect no less.

• I liked what I saw in Mat Bartram last night too.

• Kevin Burns had a big interception.

• I couldn’t believe it; it was like Mat Thomas grew up right before our eyes. He has never played such a football game. He played like a man, and that’s a fact.

There is still a lot of room for improvement – but if these cats keep growing like they have so far this year; they can be very, very good.

I’m very proud of this team. Keep working and improving guys.

Graybeard

Good post Graybeard. The lineman blocked so much better last night than the first 2 weeks and your right about Thomas.

Darrell Mahan....Thats all i got to say.

....... and had the Cats not stumbled w/ turnovers this game wouldn't have been this close.

What? Yes, Ashland fumbled but Russell also made lots of mistakes. How bout the Clark TD called back or Clark's missed interception that would have been a TD, or the passes that were off target, or the drops, or the fumbles. Do you get my point. If you're going to say that about Ashland, you could also say it about Russell.

Their probably should have been a penalty called but Chris was jus retaliating after Clark kicked him in the facemask at the bottom of a pile. Jus what I saw out there you could see it on film too.

You fail to tale the whole story, which I doubt you even know. Did you see the film already? Man, it must be hard to tape and watch the game at the same time. Will you teach me how?

Don't get her panties in a wad, 'cause she'll come out smokin' and blow your doors of in the quarter mile. You may want the old lady to have your back one day. They're all (rightfully so) a little giddy about those two straight OT shockers...well, at least stunners). BTW, if Boyd County or even Wurtland are lookin' for a coach, I hear Rich Brooks is lookin' for a team.

Let's remember to keep the discussion on the field...and off of each other.

Don't forget, one of those fumbles actually worked in Ashlands favor. The fumble that Mahan picked up and threw to McDavid in the endzone was actually made possible by the reaction of the Russell secondary to the fumble. It was a heads up play by Mahan to recover and throw the TD to the open reciever. And a tough break for Russell because I believe it was 3rd and 12 on that play.

I think Frances will be OK. He can handle some good natured ribbing.

While I am impressed with Kasey Clark's athletic talents, I would think twice about putting him on the list for Mr. Football.`He was called for one unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and could have been called for another from what I saw. He was in front of the Ashland student section struttin and taunting them. Not a lot of class.

I have seen a lot of talk about class regrading this game. My family came out last night to watch a nice football game.( We have family on both Ashland and Russell teams) on the way out of the field, my children all under 11 in their Russell gear were cursed at twice and while walking to our car a carload of Ashland teens cursed at Russell fans out the window and threw cigarette butts at us. No class seen by some Ashland teens either. It was a ballgame people played by kids. We should all be setting an example.

Let's remember to keep the discussion on the field...and off of each other.

And they won't win any spelling bees either. Bottom line, Ashland has, against the odds, become a good, confident football team, and they deserve this crazy celebration (it being a holiday, and all). Give the Devil his due (sorry Russell, no pun intended, and we still dominate the academic team stuff)!!

The kind of thing we're talking about.
