My thoughts for Russell.... POUND IT DOWN ASHLANDS THROAT, and when everyone in the region is at the game tomorrow, and Ashland is leaning back-fat with the gate money, and everyone is watching from Eastern Kentucky and Southern Ohio----- watch the DEVILS make the kittens wish they would have stayed in side in the nice DRY cold walls of their HOLY GRAIL OF A RELIC.

My personal favorite Russell pre-game post. Where is the Devilologists???? I guess we have to list him amoung the missing.

Congrats to Ashland for the solid win. Both the players and coaches earned it. I will echo the sentiments of many who have already posted that this is not the same Ashland team that I saw play Raceland two weeks ago. The Tomcats beat us soundly up front where it counts. Kasey is a great back, but I think this game proved he cannot do it all on his own. I think fatique from being on defense the whole first quarter loomed large in this game for Russell. By the third quarter, we were just out of gas. We could not stop Thomas from getting the 6 and 7 yard gains at will. Russell coaching staff has to learn from this one; do a better job of rotating players in and out of the game. Wills was hobbling for most of the 2nd half. (I think it was an ankle) Devils need to regroup and get back to work next week as there's a whole lot of season left.

 

The crowd was great; it certainly felt like a rivalry game to me. Is Boyd Co. really a bigger game for Ashland than Russell???

The Devils defense took a big hit the first play of the game when starting nose tackle Jonathan Cornwell went down. Potential ACL tear, let's all hope that he is okay. I hate to see any kid get injured and lose a season. And as far as Ashland vs. Boyd Co. being a bigger game it has district implications and playoff seeding on the line so it probably is a little more important , year in and year out the Ashland-Russell game is a good measuring stick for both teams between two schools who love to hate each other in a good way I guess!

I know what you mean. I loved it when we were in the same district and got to play every year. I just really hated the bus ride down there.

 

Hopefully though, Russell will get to take that bus ride later in the season.:fire:

I knew Cornwell's injury must have been serious when he took off the shoulder pads and stayed on the bench. Definitely hope he's ok. I guess my comment about the Boyd/Russell rivalry was the sheer emotion that was evident from the Ashland fans at the end.

Great competition year in and year out make a rivalry. That (IMO) make the Cats-Devils rivalry the better one.

I think that deep down both teams want the bragging rights for the year, I also think that the players and coaches would trade a loss in this game for a district title and a #1 seed. The Ashland-Russell game comes fully equipped with exactly no hardware. The real success of the season comes for both teams in the next 7-8 weeks! Boyd Co. actually stands in the Tomcats way of reaching their team goals and Russell does not thats what I mean when I talk about rivalries. Russell will trade this loss for a win @ Fleming Co. to hold up that district trophy!

:fire: I think there is one Russell player that needs some well deserved props, as does the whole Russell squad for a great one at the GRAIL, haven't heard much about :devil: Tyler Jones #8. Man did he make some big plays on the D side not to mention as QB. Great job Tyler, Teresa the kids and Me are very proud of you!!:thumb:

You ought to be proud of him BADCAT. He did a great job. I'd love to see him get some reps at RB though. I really think he would shine there and give some added versatility to Russell's offense. IMO it would be much harder to key on Clark if Tyler were lined up in the backfield as well.

No arguments here on the importance of the game (District games are more important). But as far as talent levels year in and year out, and competitiveness, The Ashland-Russell series is more of a rivalry game than Ashland-BC. Even though on paper the games count for very little, these two programs want to whip each other.

In fairness, GIAT and Oldrambler both missed it by an eyelash. Oldrambler had it Ashland 22 Russell 20.

Russell announcers said the FG was good.

The field goal was not good. The kick was from the left hash mark. It was a very tough angle for a short field goal. Evans kick was solid just a little wide of the post. Again that was a tough kick to make from that angle under those circumstance. Evans should keep his head high.

You're absolutely right about the district implications, which are nil. But a rivalry is indeed all about the bragging rights. My comment should have been is the Boyd Co game a bigger "rivalry game" for the fans. I realize that Ivan and Coach Hart will both take a non-conference loss over a district loss every time. But for a true rivalry game it doesn't get any better than Ashland-Russell IMO.

I noticed that after that injury, it looked like Russell was rotating alot of players in and out on the D-line. It looked like 3 or 4 different players.
