Well guys its 11:47, Im married now so my ability to head straight for the computer has been regulated. Anyway what a GREAT game, absolute classic! This is one game that when both sides look back they will be glad they were a part of it. Both teams deserved to win tonight and both teams deserved to lose. Ashlands 5 turnovers is completely unacceptable, the first one which was returned 85 yards for a TD was a killer, I honestly didnt know if the Tomcats could recover. Good Lord was Matt Thomas on fire tonight! By far his best game as a Tomcat, if he runs like that every week the sky is the limit! The O-line did a great job. Having Lacey Snodgrass back was huge, he made some great blocks leading Thomas around the side. Jesse Parsley, Michael Walters, and Travis Gallaher deserve a lot of credit for their work inside.

 

Ashland really dominated this game and the line of scrimmage pretty much all night, I didnt really expect that. Mahan had plenty of time to throw but was still plagued by drops. Darrell is now 2-0 and its great for me to watch him succeed! Clark played his usual game and had one nice long TD run I believe, it just seems to me like they need to get some more people involved in the offense. Im sure Russell will be in the thick of it at the end of the season. Russell and Belfry should be a great one! The field goal looked a little left to me, but it didnt miss by much. Anyway good luck to Russell the rest of the way, maybe this loss will do for them what our loss to Raceland did for us. Good job Tomcats!

Congratulations to the Tomcats players and coaches on a hard earned win. They deserved it.

 

Also BIG TIME games by Thomas and Mahan. If Thomas runs like he did tonight the Tomcats will be tough to beat. That was not the same timid runner from the past. A great performance. Same for Mahan. He kept his composure and made big plays while scrambling all game long. Needs to cut back on the fumbles though.

 

Ashland deserved to win. That was the best and most physical game I have seen the Tomcats play in three years. You gotta tip your cap to them.

I went back to the "prediction" thread earlier this evening, and I have to say that you were one of those that was cautioning Russell not to overlook Ashland, and that the game was no "lock" for a win.

 

Good to see you keeping it in perspective, and I wish your Devils the best of luck the rest of the way.

He did in my eyes. That is by far the hardest I have ever seen Matt run. Like I stated he looked a lot like his dad Gary tonight.

 

Not nearly as ugly as Gary, though. I'm sure he's grateful that he got his looks from the "Fish" side of the gene pool...

Fair enough Yoda. But I listened to Russell guys on the radio, and granted there were holes. But I heard SHOCK in the voices of the Russell commentators at how HARD Thomas ran the ball.

 

I wasn't there guys. I have heard the hype from Ashland fans for two years. I have also heard the complaints in the last couple weeks. Did Matt Thomas become the man Tomcat fans have wanted him to be tonight?

I believe it was a combination of both, but it was also the hardest Matt has ran the ball. He did not seem timid when he was about to get hit like he has some in the past.

The five up front definitely deserve a tremendous amount of credit. They were absolutely huge tonight. Let's hope that this unit can continue to improve week to week. If they can do that, the sky is the limit.

Nice win for the Tomcats!! You guys showed a lot of character to get where you are now from week # 1. It would have been easy to quit and start to doubt your abilities but you guys sucked it up and went to work. Congrats to the coaches, players & community on a great win.:thumb:

Also congrats to the Russsell players on giving us fans a great show. You were a part of something special tonight. Good luck to you the rest of the season. Thomas had a great game & Kasey Clark showed why he is in the running for Mr. Football.

Thanks, Play 2 Win. I think Russell has about 7 or 8 weeks now, in which to iron out the bugs. I'm guessing that come playoff time, Ivan will have them clicking on all cylinders. At the risk of making a huge understatement, he seems to have a knack for working out the kinks.

Me, Watusi, and Morehead were right there listening to it. Sounds to me like Russell played a pretty good game and still lost.

 

The question is, and I'm sorry if this is too early. How do we gage a hard fought and "well played" overtime victory by Ashland v. Russell, against the hard faught and 6 fumble Belfry game?

Russell missed many oportunities to win this game as well. Silly penalties, a block in the back downfield on Clarks TD that was called back that would have made it 21-7. Bad snaps on a field goal to win the game in regulation. Missed blocking assignments. And of course turnovers.

I have a funny feeling Kasey Clark and a very sizeable Red Devils team will march into CamField (Junky.. lol) in Novemeber to decide who meets Mercer Co. I can't wait!

Your most certainly right FBall, but that doesn't change my analysis. My point was this: before this game, many Belfry fans, including myself were worried about Russell. Now, I know this will be a game of heart and desire.

 

The Pirates have a long way to go, but I honestly believe they are could have beat Ashland, as could have Russell. We both barely missed out. The difference IMO, is Russell lost the LOS, and Belfry won it.

 

Its going to be an AWESOME game in Nov!

You're right on this post. It was an exciting game, but both coaches will look at the film and know they have some work to do with the turnovers, missed opportunities and untimely penalties.
