The field goal was not good. The kick was from the left hash mark. It was a very tough angle for a short field goal. Evans kick was solid just a little wide of the post. Again that was a tough kick to make from that angle under those circumstance. Evans should keep his head high.

The Devils defense took a big hit the first play of the game when starting nose tackle Jonathan Cornwell went down. Potential ACL tear, let's all hope that he is okay. I hate to see any kid get injured and lose a season. And as far as Ashland vs. Boyd Co. being a bigger game it has district implications and playoff seeding on the line so it probably is a little more important , year in and year out the Ashland-Russell game is a good measuring stick for both teams between two schools who love to hate each other in a good way I guess!

 

 

Let's hope his injury is not serious and he's able to return to play in a short time.

Trust me the other 99% of Lawrence Co fans don't think that way! This is the same person that is calling for Goldsmith to be gone 3 games into the season with a Freshman QB!....

 

Not to worry, Stick1. We understand that the majority of fans at any school usually root for their team, but do it in an understated manner. Every school also has a couple of fans that just need a little more "seasoning" before they learn to repect other teams.

 

I don't think anyone from Ashland is lumping all Lawrence County people into one group, just because someone goes too far with it. These last few posts are intended to let DAWG45 know that his crow is ready, and it's time for him to come eat.

I noticed that after that injury, it looked like Russell was rotating alot of players in and out on the D-line. It looked like 3 or 4 different players.

 

I think Harvey #74 was rotated in and out, but overall it was the same 11 or 12 guys throughout. Again, Wills at linebacker was limping most of the game. We were just getting whipped and I think alot of that was from fatigue. (There was only one offensive play in the first quarter for Russell.)

After predicting a 48-0 Russell victory, he's probably going to be away for a while. Then again, I'm sure he'll be back online as soon as it looks like we've all forgotten about this one. Probably sometime in basketball season, we'll get to hear from him again.

I think your right. After that first quarter the stats for the game were pretty even. Ashland did to Russell what Russell wants to do. They controlled the ball and the game clock. One offense play in the first quarter and that was a fumble.

 

Also, again, what a game from Matt Thomas. 198 yards and running hard.

 

From the what if catagory though. Kasey Clark was superb as well. 150 yards and had the long TD run in the second half not been called back would have had 200 yards. And a 21-7 lead.:irked: Oh well, penalties are part of the game. Got to cut down on the silly mistakes.

You will hear from him sooner than that. He loves Russell football and sometimes picks with his heart more than his head. That 48-0 prediction was what he wanted to see. Matt Thomas was the real deal for Ashland. He was getting sizeable yardage on each and every touch. He could have also hurt us in the flat on pass receptions, but I think he was hearing "footsteps" on a couple of those drops. Coach Hart has to be feeling good about Thomas' hard running though.

Good morning everyone... A few more thoughts on the game. Number two for Ashland is an outstanding football player. Where was he against Raceland?? They used him as a decoy all game. This was a very exciting game and either team could have won. The best team did win although. If Russell would have won. I would have said the best team won. Football is funny. I counted 10 plays that if any one of them would have been different Russell would have won in regulation. This is what I love about football. The Refs IMO did an excellent job last night. Russell 24 also outstanding. I saw a much improved Ashland team from week one. It appears that the Head Coach has the players in the positions they need to be in. If I were Ashland #2 would handle the ball 35 times a game. He is the play maker. Now bring home the big prize Ashland.

 

Russell will be a better team because of this loss. It takes a lot of presure off. They will no longer be the #1 team in the state. They don't have to worry about that 13 game winning streak. Being 15 and 0. Some may think I'm crazy but I truely believe they will be better for this loss.

It is ironic what a loss can do for a good team.
