Ashland 24 Russell 21 (3 OT)

Great game, I enjoyed listening to it.

I agree Watusi, i have listened to Martin long enough now that I filter out all of his analogy's and opinions and just listen to his play by play and I can tell what is going on, he is one of the best play by play men around imo. Just learn to filter out his extra curriciular junk. Again, way to go Tomcats and good luck to Russell the rest of the way.

There is no crow eating here frances. I picked Ashland by 2, pretty close. Congrats to Ashland's Tomcats!! I listened to this game and it was a great one. Ashland overcame turning the football over 5 times to Russell. The Thomas kid had a heck of a game. IMO Clark for Russell did nothing to discredit his status as one aof the best football players in the state, he was very good as always. When you turn the ball over 5 times and still win - that is impressive. Usually when a team does that against anyone, let alone a very good team like Russell that team is beat. Sounded like the Ashland kids just "refused to lose". Ashland was the best team tonight. Congrats to both teams for playing a 3 ot marathon and giving it your all. Russell, you have nothing to be ashamed of, you were beaten by a very good football team. Good luck to you the rest of the year. Way to go Tomcats - Great win!!

Absolutely a great post, Oldrambler. Like you, I think Clark showed why he deserves consideration as Mr. Football. The entire Ashland defense keying on him all night long, and he still hangs up some serious numbers.

As I said in the opening post, Matt Thomas has now shown that he has arrived as a running back as well.

Kind of the same thing I am thinking CFJ, does this show that Belfry is still on the same playing field??

I, for one, have never doubted that Belfry belonged on the same field as Russell. Did I think Russell had more coming back and probably a better team? Yes. Do I still feel that way? Yes. But Belfry does have a younger team, thus more room to improve throughout the year. Hopefully this means come playoff time the Pirates will be hitting their stride with all the young guys gaining valuable experience throughout the year. IMO this game means nothing but bragging rights for Ashland and it doesnt in anyway signify that Russell still isnt the favorite to come out this side of the state in AA.

What's the over/under going to be on posts that include moving the game back a day is why Ashland won?

I'll go out on a limb and say that if Russell and Belfry meet in the playoffs, it'll be well worth the price of admission.

Don't take this the wrong way, though - if it happens, I'll be pulling for the Devils.

Russell announcers said the FG was good.

What a shock, I am suprised those clowns new that there was a goal post on the field.:D

Clark seemed impressive according to the Russell boys, but even they couldn't deny how HARD and WELL Thomas ran.

I think I remember hearing "I have never seen Matt Thomas run so hard and dig for yardage like that." That is music to every TomCats ears!

Sounds to me like the Jr. Matt Thomas GREW UP tonight! Keep gettin in his but Tomcats, cause the kid can get the job done!

Congrats on a big win for the Cats

Hmmmmm!!! Ashland beats Russell, Raceland beats Ashland, Interesting.

So what you're saying is that if Belfry/Russell III happens this fall that you would be willing to fork over the price of admission and make the trip down US 23 to Belfry and watch. Ill save you a seat if it happens.

I can almost promise that you will hear it. and I hope not, I wouldn't want anything to take away from the way their kids played. Russell has a fine team that imo will go far in the playoffs this year. I just hate to hear excuses from fans taint a bunch of kids effort.

Thomas has a heck of a game. If he runs like that added to all the weapons that Ashland has, Ashland will make their usual post season run.

I can't imagine that Russell fans would complain about the date the game was played on. I think that they will all agree that itwas a great game and it would have played out the same way if it was played last night.
